Nice upgrade from using a basic bowl with a lid. Exactly what I was looking for, thank you!A kitchen scraps receptacle with:* an attached flip-lid that we can operate with a light touch from a knuckle (or flick of a wrist, or close of a drawer), with no soiled-bottomed lid that you have to pick up (with your potentially messy hands) and set down somewhere.* a sturdy and comfortable handle that makes it easy to lift out from or set down in a cabinet or drawer, to relocate around the kitchen, and carry out of the house— with no worries about a messy slip up.* a low profile that fits perfectly inside a drawer beneath our kitchen sink. Even if we happen to leave it out on the countertop or table, the low profile, clean lines and tint (which is relatively color-coordinated with our space) makes it inconspicuous.* size/width that gives you plenty of space to accurately slide or drop material inside without making a mess over the edges. Also, the product's lightweight material and shape make it easy to hold (with one hand) against the edge of the counter/ under your cutting board, if that's what feels right.* removable top and smooth lines make it easy to tip out contents and give the caddy a quick swish to rinse and keep relatively clean.We empty ours at a rate of daily to every-other day, so odor and fruit flies aren't an issue. (Not that it would be the product's fault if these were our issues. It's a receptacle not a composter, folks!) It was good of the manufacturer to include a complimentary carbon filter, nonetheless. This compost bin is handy for everyday cooking. It sits nicely on the counter and is easy to place under the counter or move around with its handle. We’ve used this for a couple months and it seems to really keep smells from escaping. However, to be fair, we don’t put meat scraps in the bin, so that helps. The top lid comes off so it makes emptying and cleaning very easy, but it also doesn’t hold very much. We are using 1.3 gallon compostable bags and only fill them about 1/2 way since this bin is quite shallow.

Allows for 1-2 days of composting to build up before needing to be dumped into compost bin. The filter works surprisingly well and I haven’t been able to smell any bad smells (even when foods are sitting in it for a week) unless it’s up next to my nose. Even stinky veggies! Very impressed.

I usually love this brand but they missed a huge innovation step... how to keep the fruit flies from populating the compost and therefore the kitchen... house... everywhere! For now we keep it outside, but it might end up in the garage sale of purchasing mistakes.
