It does look unique from the outside, how is its quality? I've read some bad comments on the quality of this combo from the reviews.

I've got no complaints with the quality of the rods, I nought 2, they have preformed well and sustained no apparent damage or loss of function.

Is this good for float fishing or are there better options?

Yes it’s good for most types of fishing and strong enough to pull in a few carp over 7lb
