Airbag warning light on VW GTI MK4 2003
I bought this to turn off the airbag warning light. I took both the front seats out of my car three years ago and the light came on about the same time after I did that. So, I was sure it was a faulty light that I accidentally tripped. The reviews are mixed so I took a chance...after all it's only 13 dollars. I got this super fast, three days after I ordered it...I was expecting a week to 10 days. It's very easy to use and it took two try, unplugging and replugging back in, until it read 5 codes. All of them had to do with the seatbelt tensioner and something with the connectors under the seats. So, I tried to erase them all but one would not go away, 00591, and so the airbag light wouldn't go away either. After digging around online, it turned out to be a very comment problem. One of the wires at the seatbelt buckle was broken, mine was the blue one. After reconnecting the wire, the plug the scanner in and it still read the same code but this time I could erase it. Airbag light went away also. Now, I am thinking those people who said the scanner would read the codes but wouldn't erase them out...they might actually need to fix what's causing the code to show up in the place. Not trying to be a smartXss. I thought nothing was wrong with my car and was a faulty warning light myself too. This scanner worked for what I bought it for which was only the SRS system. I tried the engine menu and there were no code which was good. However, when I try to read the 2nd menu A/T, it kept saying linking error. I tried more than 5 times too...that's why I only give 4 stars.

and it is honestly a crap shoot. However
I read an extensive number of reviews for this scanner, and it is honestly a crap shoot. However, I was able to clear my airbag light with this guy. Now, was I able to get it cleared the first try? No! I was pissed. I did however find a video that demonstrated what to do with this. Just keep going for several times. I think if your not willing to spend a lot of money to clear your lights, this is a decent alternative. I have a 2008 VW Jetta SEL and my airbag light has been off for 3 months, with the passenger side going on when someone sits in that seat. Again, this worked for me, but can no way guarantee that it will work for you, but give it a try.

2000 Jetta - worked within 3 tries
At first, I connected it without the key in the ignition and ran the SRS erase function. I got a link fail error. Without removing it, I turned the key to the on position (without starting the car), ran the SRS erase function again, and got a different error. Still keeping it plugged in, I started the car and ran it again. I forget the message, but it meant it had cleared the code. It was something like "it's done." On my dash, the airbag light was still on, so I turned off the car and restarted it. The airbag light came on for a second along with the other warning lights, then it and the others turned off. I checked it a couple of times and it's no longer showing up.That whole process took me about five minutes. The light had originally come on when I removed the seats. It's been on for two years.

while it isn't perfect, it cleared my airbag code cheaply and easily
I have a 2010 Jetta SE 2.5L and was able to fix the dreaded airbag light issue.I gave it 5 stars since, while it isn't perfect, it cleared my airbag code cheaply and easily. Plus I now have a scanner for all my cars.My stock stereo RCD510 revision AC died, as they all do. I took apart the dash and pulled some fuses to check them. Probably while the car was still on, and this tripped the airbag light. So I knew there was not an actual airbag fault or harness issue, as is also common.Disconnecting the battery terminals and touching the negative and positive cables together (battery fully disengaged) for 15 mins to discharge the electronics did not work. It reset everything, but the airbag light on the dashboard is most likely stored permanently, hard coded in the cars computer and actively needs to be erased. The 2010 Jetta has a MK5 body, but with mostly MK6 electronics inside. I say mostly, because the following OBDII scanner seems to be able to fix the airbag issue due to the fact that those computer bits are probably carry over MK5 electronics. It should work just fine for all MK5 Jetta cars up to 2009. Same I imagine for all Golf MK5s.It works, but has some issues. On my 2001 MK4 Golf 1.8T it cleared all the codes just fine. On my Jetta 2010 it scanned and found the codes. A few times it reported Linkage Failed, just restarted and replugged and it worked again. It too found the codes, but when I erased it, it said Erase Failed! But, the codes were gone when I rescanned it. Also, the airbag light has disappeared and not come back on since then.It seems to have also erased about 4 other codes, a few were battery codes, which makes sense, since I had drained the system. Not sure if it will erase the Check Engine light in all cases, but I surmise it should. If, for some reason the airbag light comes back on, I'll let you all know! Hope this helps.

VW Airbag DTC 65535 will not clear
2002 VW Passat W8. My airbag diagnostic trouble code is 65535 control unit failure or internal control module keep alive memory (KAM) error, or power. VCDS Will not clear the code. The U281 causes an audible buss from the airbag module when clearing the airbag fault. The airbag light extinguished. The fault immediately returns when the car is started. I tried it 15 times and it continues to return. 3 stars because it has other functionality like code scanning as well as reading and erasing codes in the engine, transmission, abs, and airbag modules. DTC 65535 may be the only airbag code that it cannot clear. Module will have to be shipped off for a reset. It was worth a try.
