Phantasy Star Online, Episode I & II

Very fun game; literally unplayable on Xbox
This game is very fun on the Dreamcast and GameCube, and still fairly good on the PC. I imagine it would be on the Xbox as well, sadly I don't know because it literally CANNOT be played without some heavy-duty legwork. When this game came out, it required an Xbox Live account. This wouldn't be a problem, except that Live for the original Xbox is gone. And unlike the Dreamcast and GameCube versions, you HAVE to be connected to Live to even boot up the disc to the main menu. Even offline play requires a connection! And when it WAS working, you'd be paying around $170 a year to play online, combining the cost of Live in the first place and the purchase of a $10/month license.Yes, there are workarounds, but most involve a modchip or require you to have a "Linux box". The only one which works at all needs an old XBL account on a memory card or the hard drive itself, which are becoming increasingly hard to find considering that no new accounts can be created.I was wondering why the Xbox version of this game was so cheap, and now I know. Thanks to some very poor marketing and design decisions by both Microsoft and Sega, this game is literally impossible to play for about 99% of Xbox users. It isn't even compatible at all with the Xbox 360!Please, unless you KNOW you'll be able to play this, spend the extra dough and get the GameCube version (or the Dreamcast, if you don't care about splitscreen and Episode II). This is almost worthless even to collectors.

Still playable on original xbox
There have been a lot of people saying that you cannot play this game at all anymore because xbox live is no longer supported on the original xbox and this game is not compatible on the xbox 360. This game IS playable through the offline mode on an original xbox AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A XBOX LIVE ACCOUNT ALREADY LINKED TO YOUR ORIGINAL XBOX. If you do not, then it wont work because there is no way for you to put your account on the original xbox because all the servers have been removed. In my case, i have a gamertag saved to my original xbox, so when i turn on the game i just have to select that gamertag and then select offline mode and bam, you are good to go. I was relieved to discover this because i purchased this game dirt cheap, compared to the gamecube version, because most people think it is unplayable. I used to own this game for gamecube and played the hell out of it back in the day, but stupid me let a friend borrow it and then his house was robbed and he lost his collection of games including the handful of mine he had borrowed. So if you are lucky like me and have an original xbox with a gamertatag stored on it then you can absolutely play and enjoy this great game.

dont buy this game on xbox
Its just a useles game disc but a nice frisbee. The game needs an xbox live gamer tag to play, plus this game wont work on the 360 and if your aware there is no way to make a gamer tag on the original xbox so this game is obsolete. But you can get the gamecube version which is alive and strong. DONT buy this from any seller. I found this out the hard way and its my own fault.

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!
I would like to say this is a great game. I would settle if I could say this is a decent game. Alas I cannot as this game is unplayable. I bought this game used about 5 months ago and I found that you cant even start the game unless you have signed up for the online network (which conveniently no longer exists).
