GREAT drive, fast and small!
I got my previous portable storage solution, the platter-based HDD WD My Passport Ultra in 2TB capacity, back in mid-2015. It's held up for almost eight years and I've been very proud of it. Recently it started to click, most likely meaning that it is on its way out. I take that to mean that the read-write head is striking the inside of the case on occasion. It actually happens maybe only once every two or three minutes when it's idle. So, maybe it's not that bad. And I could retire it to use as an only-occasionally backup drive - when I was copying and moving content from it to the new drive so it could be more easily accessible, the clicking did not occur nearly as often, so maybe I was worried for not much. Which is, fortunately, not an issue at all with the new SSD that I got just recently: Crucial X6! Same capacity, taking up the same position on my desk, but incredibly small - and no moving parts to wear out! YAY! Though of course I don't know for sure, I imagine that the inside is a small form-factor M.2 drive flanked with heat spreaders - the only other option is that the drive takes up the entire space inside the case. Either way, the drive is awesome and performs quite quickly for any number of applications. Much more quickly than the old magnetic drive, that's for sure. A weird thing is that it does not like CrystalDiskMark - creating its test file and then the speed test on it, well, takes a lot longer than I thought it would, whether I keep it on the default of 1 GB or go down to 128 MB. This makes this program unreliable for speed tests in my configuration - if I did not stop the test and let it show the speed that it determined, it would likely be much slower than the actual drive’s speed. Speaking of my configuration: my computer does not have a USBC port on it natively, and this drive only has a USBC port on it, most likely to save on space and keep the drive as miniscule as it possibly can be. Thus, I had to get a USBC to USBA adapter cable, which I had gotten before for use with another drive. As far as I can tell, without being able to use a benchmark program as previously stated, the functionality and speed is fine with this SUNGUY brand cable. And the cable is fairly snazzy as well as you can see, its nylon-esque cover being braided! Back at its inception two years ago, this drive was incredibly expensive at $285, and it was only available in 1 and 2 TB variants - now there's a 4 terabyte variant which I may get sometime. I was able to get this 2 TB variant for $110 and I am very happy about that. In retrospect, it might have been a bit better to be a bit more circumspect about my purchase and spend the extra $20 on the X8, which comes with its own USBA adapter and is apparently faster? (limited by the USBA connection, of course) But that's all right - this will do for me for now, and I'm sure that somewhere down the line I will get the X8 as well, and repurpose this drive for maybe an extra storage device for my Xbox One - or the other way around. Goodness knows it's slow enough with its magnetic drive built in. So yeah. get this drive if you want a little extra capacity and you're able to find a good spot for it to sit on your desk. Since it is so lightweight and small and thus likely to get lost if you don't secure it, I do highly recommend getting cable clips like those little adhesive/silicone ones that can grab onto cables and hold things securely in place - the ones I got have the brand names of OHill, ChefBee and ONME (yeah, I have lots of cables that need securing! ) and are sold here on Amazon for around $10, and come in both white and black (ONME had some Browns in their collection as you can see, but they stopped selling them over the past two years). Do some shopping as your needs entail 🙂 Take care, awesome fellow computer people, and happy storing!

Fantastic but...
Fantastically small. Fits in the palm of your hand. Much faster than a traditional hard drive. But.. Mac support is not at the same level as PC support. There is software available to tweak the drive for a PC but not available for the Mac. To be honest I played with the PC software and there's nothing there I really need but only offering it for one operating system seems kind of backwards. Also within a day of getting it my Mac would not recognize it and the solution from their website was to reformat the drive through Mac tools. The issue was I already had information on the drive. Luckily I have access to a PC and spent quite some time trying to find enough storage for the two terabytes of data I had on the drive. Since then I have had no issues with it but I've yet to toss my old hard drive as I'm not fully trusting this thing. One suggestion would be to include a shorter usb-c cable. The one that came with it is short but if you pick up the laptop it's still long enough that the drive dangles below and I bumped it on a couple things. A 3-in cable would be perfect.

Solid brand, small size, fast
I bought this drive to use as a Time Machine backup device. It has USB-C plugs on both ends of the cord. I plugged it in and it mounted immediately on the desktop. I did have to reformat it to Time Machine specs. The one question I have that isn't answered since I just got it, is whether this has to be unmounted every single time I shut my computer down or put it to sleep. (I typically let it sleep since it has an SSD and doesn't generate heat like a normal hard drive would. Hence the reason for a Crucial SSD external drive.) Anyway, a pop-up message came up when I got back on the Mac and it said it was not ejected properly?? I didn't eject it. I simply put the Mac to sleep. Why does it have to be ejected? I don't eject my clients' thumb drives every time? So this could potentially be a bit of a PITA. At any rate, I'm currently letting Time Machine do its backup and 385GB of information appears to be taking roughly 20 minutes to copy. No noise or overheating noted. It's very very small and lightweight also. I do really like Crucial products, and also use their memory in my Mac with zero issues. For the price of less than $50, it's a solid deal.

Good quality and just as fast as my X8 Crucial SSD
I was surprised by the small size. It is easy to put somewhere. Like most current drives, it has no activity light. It came formatted as exFAT with 512k allocation units, which is very wasteful of storage space. I would suggest 128k for most people, but if you have a lot of small files like documents, you might consider NTFS with the default 4k allocation unit. You can format it in any modern format. The read and write speeds are the same. Many flash media have slower write speeds. The larger files are faster than small files. As with all flash based media I have used, fragmented files are slower than sequential files, which has to do with the charging of the address lines in the the memory chip. No heat problem like the cheap media have. It will run at full speed for many minutes without a thermal slowdown. Crucial is owned by Micron, one of the best makers of chips and an American company. I think this comes with a 3 year warranty, but it should last for at least 10 years unless subjected to heavy r/w activity.

XBOX Series S Compatibility review - Yes it works but here's everything you need to know
Item - Crucial X6 1TB Portable SSD – Up to 540MB/s – USB 3.2 – External Solid State Drive, USB-C - CT1000X6SSD9 Price paid w/Prime- $79.99 + tax on 10/23/21 Yes is the answer if you're wondering the question of whether it works with Series S! BUT- it will not work out of the box, you need to get a USBC to USB cable or else it will only be able to be used for media and will NOT be able to be formatted for game storage & playability. A dongle or adapter did NOT work for me. The cable did. Unfortunately it only comes with a USBC to USBC cable. Fortunately I had one laying around after dropping several F-Bombs due to confusion thinking it was plug and play for my XBOX Series S. I accept fault because the (in the box) section states it has a USBC to USBC cable but some obvious info listed somewhere would have been nice. Performance: Overall better than I expected I can play games from the drive and still use quick resume with non optimized Series S/X games which was a surprise to me due to reading otherwise with non Microsoft brand storage devices. I played Arkham Knight and Need For Speed online and went back and forth with quick resume and had zero issues. Cool. Price: Looks like $79.99 was a great deal since it now sits at $119.70 w/Prime but $119 still seems decent to me. At this price I would probably try to spend more time shopping around though but I guess I got lucky. Cons: 1.) (Not a problem for me) The write speed slacking off after 20% filled capacity spoken about in others reviews seems accurate to me after using it. I intentionally filed it past 20% to see how it would perform while playing before this review. Results - Started transfer at 16% capacity with 60ish gig Forza 4. Once the Crucial got past around 20% capacity , the transfer from the internal drive to the Crucial slowed down a bit. Transfer countdown went from 1 min+ to 2 min+ and kept bouncing around and ultimately took around 7 min total to transfer the game. The most important part to me though was gaming was not effected once it past 20% only write speed so for my usage it does not matter but if write speed is extremely important to you, maybe look for something better but even if I was using this on a computer and needed to transfer 60+ gigs and it took the same time as the game did, I would have no problems with that at all. Con 2.) Lack of updated info on gaming compatibilities. I seen an article on their page which discussed compatibility with an Xbox One but nothing on the Series S, a keyword search shows nothing. IMO, there should be some info from the company in this listing or on this site that in order to use this with the Series S you will need to have or buy a USBC to USB cable. Summary: I feel I got a great bang for my buck and I'm happy it will allow gameplay and quick resume. If it didn't have the slow down after 20% filed capacity and it was clear somewhere in the listing or on their site it would be a 5 star product for me. It's still a 4 star for me so I'm happy. The size is great too. Hope this helped you avoid some confusion or understand better what you're looking at!

cute, fast, very light
This little drive is very cute, very lightweight, and plenty fast. A short USB-C cable is included. I got it as a step up (in speed and capacity) from the plug-in "thumb drive" usb devices, which tend to be slower and top out around 512GB max capacity, as of my last search. Testing, I got impressive speeds of 369 MB/s write, 383 MB/s read, in sustained straight-line 1MB block operations using a USB3 connector wired direct to my rig's mainboard (~3 year old chipset). That's quite a lot slower than the 800MB/s in the product description, but it appears I'm bound by the specific USB3 controller on my desktop. Quite likely you would be also bound your usb hub or controller Getting 800MB/s out of USB is within the latest spec, and attainable with NVME storage in the unit. But probably real-world unrealistic and also unnecessary for 1TB. Anyway: it's plenty fast for my uses. Here's how FreeBSD13 (linux would be similar) sees the drive, for those curious: Micron CT1000X6SSD9 PMAP Fixed Direct Access SPC-4 SCSI device 400.000MB/s transfers d953869MB (1953525168 512 byte sectors) Only quibble: There's no activity/power light, which I like to see just to make sure I have a good physical connection. I've used a lot of Crucial memory and SSDs over the years, and been happy with all of them. Happy with this one too.

Tiny but mighty!
I purchased this 2tb ssd to replace my old failing 2tb hhd, had a slight issue when I plugged it in the package said plug and Play but that wasn't entirely true it comes formatted and partitioned and only shows up as 128 gigs... The instructions that came with it are printed so small you would need a magnifying glass to read it and the instructions eventually tell you to go to The crucial website and download software that is designed for a Windows system but I was using dssd for an Android system which the box says it's Android compatible.. no matter what technique I used it would not let me format the hard drive for Android until I watched a YouTube video of someone plugging in the SSD directly to a cell phone... There was the aha moment.. so when I plugged it the SSD into my cell phone it said that there was an issue with the hard drive and can't be used until it's formatted so I formatted it using my cell phone and then after formatting it came up as being 2tb.... Success! I then was able to attach it to my Chromebook and transfer the information from my failing hard drive onto the SSD.... Normally transferring the amount of information I had almost 600 GB would have taken overnight with a regular hhd but this crucial SSD did the job in less than 3 hours!! The transfers are lightning fast the storage is unbelievable I would highly recommend this product to others.

Nice small portable ssd
Bought it on Black Friday and got a nice deal. It is a nice portable SSD. I have the 800MB/s and it is fast enough for my usage. It is very small and ideal to take it with me.

Relatively affordable decent external SSD. Very small too
Works relatively well with little to no issues. Just a little slow as others have mentioned, but otherwise is a good affordable SSD

Very cheap and fast portable storage
Plug and play for both Apple and Windows. This is currently one of the cheapest options for fast external SSD if you do not want to "roll your own".
