What will i hear if i put a balanced mono XLR into it?

I guess you will hear a mono signal

I bought a set of 80 ohm beyerdynamic dt 779 pros for work but they sound awful straight out of my mac. would this help?

Dear Draxx Menvone,Thank you for your interest in Donner EM1 Rechargeable Portable Personal in-Ear Monitor Amplifier.Yes, this will help to some extent. However, you need to buy an amp or sound card to push as dt770 80Ω impedance is too high to be pushed by the computer. Donner

What will i heard if i put an xlr carrying left and right?

This has a balanced XLR input so MONO not stereo. If you want stereo you will need to use a 1/4inch TRS Jack connection.
