Fingerstyle Guitar Gig Book Spiral-bound – July 1, 2002

Imagine Sungha Jung the internet fingerstyle wiz putting out a book for $40 which included all the arrangements he plays in standard notation and tab.You can hear and see him play via Y-Tube all the arrangements wow !This book sorely needs a CD for the songs.I know it's time consuming and may not seem to be profitable at first to put all this music on a CD but...The arrangements aren't for beginners your biggest market, pros can write their own arrangements and won't need to spend $40 for a very average repertoire of songs that everyone has heard a thousand times!Bill Pilburn has a smooth touch when he plays his arrangements and he make difficult arrangement sound easy.I know if you heard Bill play these arrangements with his velvet touch you would want to learn Bicycle Built For Two, Over the Waves,and The Girl from Ipanema.I would love to hear some of the more adventurous gems he throws our way. Round Midnight- Thelonius Monk and Blues It -Benny Golsen.I was hoping to find arrangements I could play at the local coffeehouse and make the people look up ... smile, shake there heads, or even come up to me afterward and say" dude you make me want to start practicing again! I've found free arrangement on the internet that did just that. Publishers and arrangers "Ya, gotta step it up it's a new age out there... Tea for Two please!

The spiral bound edition lays nicely flat and pages turn easily. The print is modern and decently large so it's easy to read. Overall good quality. The arrangements are a little over my head, but I knew that before buying - they're nicely put together for an early intermediate or better guitarist. It is fairly heavy and bulky, though, so you might want to invest in a sturdy music stand!

This is well written book with some good arrangments of songs. However I only gave it 3 stars because the tab is so small it is hard to read. I do not think you could take this book to a gig and read it. They mixed it up so much some of the tab is big and some is so small. the writers of these books should realize that if someone is going to the trouble to transfer a song to tab to make it big enough to see.

I am very imnpressd with this book. There are a wide variety of tunes here all with intermediate to advanced arrangements. Some of the arrangements have nice harmonic surprises, just what you would want for a professional gig. I do agree that it would have been nice if there were chord names above the changes and that there are finger stretches in a few of the tunes that you would not nomrally see and might even be unplayable by most (6 fret stretch). All in all this is the best buy on the market that I have seen for fingerstyle type of music and I would not hesitate in buying this again if I lost my first copy.

I thought this would be a great resource for fingerstyle arrangements, but the first song I tried, “Ain’t Misbehaving” was full of errors—the notes in the staff didn’t match the frets in the tab. For the money it’s not worth trying to second guess which is correct.

Kindle version of book had numerous pages that would only display half page or were blacked out. I was really looking forward to these arrangements.

This book is AMAZING it as over 130 songs and all of them are great. Just a couple days ago I met Bill at the Chet Atkins convention and told him that I play his arrangments every chance I get. Bill's arrangments are the best I have ever seen, and I've seen a lot.

It's the best giutar book I have Ever Layed eyes on. The arrangements are GENUIS.
