Works really well, until
The product itself is really good. I use it all the time. However it was delivered to me jan 20th and since then I’ve done three big pieces with it and a few smaller ones today being Feb 26 so just over a month and the same problem other buyers have mentioned has come up, where the actual wiring in the tool is coming undone. I haven’t taken the tool apart, I don’t want to damage it farther I’m not an electrician; yet the tool will stop working while I have the screws turned in very tightly and still the red light at the power base is glowing and the handle will heat up significantly. If I turn it on and turn it back off again it will run, sometimes, it hasn’t completely broken on me yet but while making this review this is the 5th or 6th time this problem has occurred and the cable disconnects from the power base so it seems like and easy fix and replace to me. 3/5 stars, would love to see this issue remedied then it would be 5/5. It’s a great tool and I really like using it when it works.

Heats Quickly - Works Well - Good Tip Selection
This wood-burning / soldering set station came with all the items I need to cover my wood-burning and soldering projects. I never seem to have enough workspace so I like that the soldering iron tool rest/tray fits on top of the main power unit. Also I prefer the analog dial on this unit as it makes it easy to set the heat range that I want. I do find that the selection indicator notch in the knob is a little hard for me to see so I am going to add some paint so that it stands out.The 20 various tips pretty much cover all of my wood-burning and soldering needs, and they are easy to swap out by just loosening the two set screws removing the current tip and then installing the new tip. The tip heats quickly, and the heat range also seems accurate to me for the few projects I have used it on.So far I am happy with this kit. If I experience any issues I will update this review.

I love everything about this burner!
The media could not be loaded. It arrives well packaged and everything in perfect condition. Initial assembly is easy and the way it all fits together for a compact space saving unit is excellent especially for crowded work spaces like mine! It comes with a variety of 20 tips and they are easy to change. It heats up and cools down quickly, 40W is great! I like the temperature control and it's an even heat! Low is low and high is hot! It's a smooth burn and I'm loving it! My old one won't be used again...this is everything I hoped for in a burner!

Great Wood Burner
Got this for my fiancé for Christmas. He loves it and said it’s a well made wood burner!

Too hot ...even turned all the way down!
This seems like a well designed and constructed tool. My problem with it is that even on the lowest heat setting, it gets too hot for burning details like fur or feathers into wood carvings. I have tried it on basswood, butternut and pine. Rather than obtaining fine brown lines, the result is heavily burnt, thick black lines. I have tried touching the tip to a wet rag, using quick strokes (which gives me less control), and sharpening the tip to a fine knife edge, but nothing really works. The adjusting know either doesn't work, or it just doesn't go low enough. This wood burner may well work fine for someone who wants heavy black lines, but not for detailing bird or animal carvings.

I wish I had bought this when I first started wood burning.
This is an immediate improvement over the soldering iron style of wood burning tool I started with.- It feels more like a regular drawing tool. With the distance from handle to tip a more natural length, almost like a pencil or paint brush, the handling position is much more natural and that makes it easier to draw precise lines with confidence.- The handle hardly gets warm at all. My old soldering iron style of wood burner would get so hot I had to let it cool off before continuing to work.- The tip heats up ready for use very quickly.- The tip cools down quite quickly when I want to change tips.- Very good selection of tips, although I can think of a couple of shading tips that would also be useful.- The temperature control works very well.- The power supply never seems to get warm at all, which is good.- I have been able to work longer, with greater comfort, because the handle never gets hot, and because the handle to tip distance is shorter, making it feel more like a natural drawing tool.- So far I am 100% happy with this wood burning tool. For the price it is perfect for an amateur like myself who wants a better tool without a big price.- My only concern is that after working for about 45 minutes it seems I have to keep turning up the temperature control to get the same result. But after putting it down to cool off for a while it works well again on my next session.

I love this unit! Great for beginners or as an upgrade to the non-wire options!
I dabbled in pyrography as a kid, I always quite enjoyed it but just taught myself and was playing around. I had been wanting to get back into it and learn how to do more fine details as opposed to just outlines and simple shapes. I haven't had a chance to get into that yet but I have used it multiple times and am really loving it!! It gets hot enough to burn fairly quickly and a variety of heads for different looks. Every time I use it I am so satisfied after using the walnut hollow style burners for so long. The difference is massive. I wasn't ready to invest in one of the more expensive sets yet and this has not disappointed me. Definitely a great value for my money! As I become more advanced I may want to upgrade, but we'll see when the time comes. For the foreseeable future this is perfect!(Pictured is a work in progress I was just working on today. Not done but very happy with how it's coming along. Took a couple hours but with the thick metal tips of the cheaper models it would have taken 5 or 6 and not looked as nice.)

Not 40W
The product worked very well at first despite not being able to get high enough heat. For some time, the heat has been really inconstant, impossible to draw lines. I can only do stitches and again, not very long because the intensity varies a lot. Too bad because I love the tool. Efficient handling, very ergonomic. I love the use but it frustrates me more and more. It does not reach 40W as mentioned. This is the second one I buy. I returned the second because the variation was worse than my first.
