For dedicated fans only?
Nicely illustrated, but hard to follow. I think you would have to be a dedicated Dune enthusiast to really enjoy this.

A good comic-book story
“Dune – House Atreides 1” collects the first four issues of the comic-book adaptation.I have not read the novel upon which this is based, but I did read ‘Dune’ back in the seventies, and remember many of the older versions of the characters appearing here. The art is a bit cartoony, but the artist can cope with human anatomy, recognisable characters, and perspective – though the colourist also does excellent work in the last of those.I have no idea what the ‘big’ plot is (other than to get to ‘Dune’), but there are numerous major characters who have their own story-streams, and some minor ones, some of which are intertwined here, and some of which we know have repercussions further down the line. The story is well written/scripted, it is interesting, and there is nothing ‘outlandish’ going on – unlike in film adaptations – and this feels like a well-crafted story that is both readable and interesting, with a minimum of captions and voice-overs, with the artist allowed to do the heavy lifting for the writers, who can get on with character- and plot-development.I am in for the long-haul.I read my local library's copy.
