Did not work correctly
Installed this switch according to directions. It tested out correctly. After the first big rain I checked the bilge the following morning and found the water level 2" above the switch. I used the manual switch on the boat to drain the bilge and that worked fine . It tested the S3 switch again with a wet rag and it worked correctly. I called Attwood customer support and was told that at times rainwater is "too clean" - "not enough minerals in the water" to make the switch work correctly. The number one reason I purchased this item was to remove the rainwater from the boat. Very disappointing product.

Failed in initial weeks of operation CUSTOMER SUPPORT DOES NOT PICK UP
Useless product. Customer support does not pick up. Unit properly installed all connections soldered wrapped tested w volt and ohm meter. Unit initialized on fused circuit. But never turns on when both connections are in water. Worked o Lt the first day. Checked fuses all good. Pump works w manual switch fine. DO NOT EXPECT A RELIABLE PRODUCT OR TO BE ABLE TO REACH SUPPORT.

Placement is Important
I have had this in my sailboat bilge as the main switch/pump combination with a ProMariner Prosport 12 charger for a little over 5 years now and I have had no problems. The pump cuts on within a few seconds of the bilge filling up and runs for about a minute after water goes below the top. I believe that the biggest issue with this is knowing where to place it. You do not want it to be in a situation where it gets splashed with the water that is in the hose when the pump cuts off. I have 4 1/2 foot of draft and the pump can't push it all out so if I left the switch too far down it would cycle constantly. So place it above the pump at an appropriate height. I have used this wired directly to the battery and now with a three way switch equally well.

Better than mechanical bilge switches.
I decided to try these sealed electric type switches after replacing mechanical fliat switches every year. I have two of these Attwood S3 switches on two different bilge pumps. I've had one switch continue to work for about 5 years on my main bilge pump. The other one lasted a year before it stopped working on my emergency bilge pump and I'm replacing it with another S3 switch.

Works like a charm
I’m using it with a Seaflow bilge switch and a Whale Gusher pump, I ran a water hose and flooded my bilge, it came on at the correct level, ran until dry and shut off, works just as I needed it to. No moving parts to break and completely waterproof.

This Bilge Switch...works fine no problems since purchasing it about 6 months ago.
Hooked this up with a Attwood Tsunami Manual Bilge Pump and works fine.Flipped Manual toggle switch in "On" position and it cycles one time and shuts off by itself (leaving switch in the "on" position).Poured water in bilge to just above the sensor and it turned on automatically and pumped out mostly all the water in the bilge leaving about 3/4" left in Bilge. You need to manually bilge pump for the remainder or use a sponge to soak it up.Made a secure L shaped bracket out of SST so this Digital Bilge switch stays attached to the Bilge pump otherwise it will float as the bilge water rises.Ordered another one to keep as a spare.

So far so good.
Needed to replace my float type switch. This one is easy to install and when I splashed water on it it made a connection and seemed to work. Time will tell.

Corrected wiring.
This is the second switch on my second boat. I had no trouble with the first boat. Switch works as it should but the wiring diagram for the 2 position switch is wrong. The way it is drawn, the pump runs all the time. You need to cut the wire from the 2 position switch to the pump. Then connect the wire from the 2 position switch to the red wire from the bilge switch. Next connect the brown wire from the bilge switch to the wire that you cut to the bilge pump. The black wire goes to the battery negative post. Now you can leave the 2 position switch turned on and the pump will operate when the water touches both contacts on the bilge switch.

Perfecto
