Don't bother
Got this and tested it at home and worked pretty good. It would occasionally ask me to remove and put back the cable. However, when I took it into the field on a fall colors trip in CO. The device basically became worthless. I would grab the GPS and transfer to my Nikon D4 about 1 in 7 tries. Even when it triggered the shutter, it did not necessarily transfer the coordinates. It got so bad that I finally just started using the iPhone to grab the GPS and I'll cut & paste it into Lightroom later.BTW, nice job Nikon for not putting in a built in GPS for the $6000 Nikon D4. Using an iPhone on top of $11,000 in Nikon camera/lens/tripod/ballhead gear to grab GPS is just priceless!Of course, having just got back from the trip on the 30th, the return period ended 9/28. Ugh!

Good idea but poorly executed!!
The idea of using iphone built in GPS and control the Nikon camera is good.I purchased this cable from Amazon to work with my Nikon D800. The thing is working but there are few glitch:The time record with GPS data are UTC time, not local time when you capture the shot.When connected the iphone and cable to the camera and using the on camera shutter, it won't record the GPS info.Sometimes error message pop up say it's disconnect when using the focus button on the iphone application.The cable and connectors are poorly made with cheap plastic, it won't last long for outdoor shooter.Try contact the customer support and was told to contact Nikon to solve the problem. What a great customer service.Sadly but I have to return it for good.

ZGR-1a cable for Nikon DSLR
There is not much to say about this one. It just works as expected! So in case anyone needs GPS data to be taken from the iPhone to a Nikon DSLR camera, it can be a good purchase, definitely cheaper as to get an extra GPS device.

Works But Pricey
Too pricey for what is essentially a piece of cable. But it works. Big advantage over a regular GPS is that the phone can give lat-lon even inside a building.
