If you own a dog with a long lean neck & long snout, and all other types of e-collars are way too short (e.g. Doberman, Weimaraner, Greyhound, Dane, Whippet) this recovery collar will completely solve the problem and put an end to the battles. After years of searching and failures, I finally found this product and can't be more pleased. If it works on my super intelligent 'Houdini' Dobermans it will work on any dog! Additionally, it's much smaller and more comfortable for dogs to wear. It takes just 5 or 6 seconds for a human to put it on and take it off their canine. Keep in mind that since it's long it must be removed for dogs to eat & drink, so visually supervise your pet during these times. When placing it on your dog it's critical that it's placed properly which is as high on the neck as it can go before fastening the easy on & off Velcro strap. This product would also be a great tool for Vets & Dog Groomers using traditional e-collars for nippy dogs, and much safer for both animal and human. I recommend watching the YouTube video to assemble it very quickly and correctly. The short video is in German, but the visual is all you need. When selecting the proper size go by the measurements on the sizing chart and NOT by the dog's weight. The Medium size (green) fits a 60-100 pound Doberman perfectly.

If you have a houdini you cant leave them unsupervised with this. She still escaped it and chewed it to shreds. Everything was attached properly and tight.

This cone is much more manageable for my dog. The narrower profile is a great idea. There are 3 problems. The instructions are atrocious. The pictograms are impossible to understand. It is not clear what is the "inside" of the cone and what is the "outside' of the cone when you have to push the "holders" thru the tabs. Perhaps a few words - or one color for the inside and one for the outside of the cone, might help. I had to look the item up again to see how it looked in order to correctly assemble it. Second: The cone needs cushioning on the edges- especially behind my dog's ears. I had to make a cushion as the edge is hard and it would have caused rubbing on the back of his ears, possibly leading to skin breakdown. Finally, with the narrower profile, there is much less air circulation. I suggest you have holes drilled into the cone for airflow and easier breathing-especially for those dogs with shorter flatter faces.

I highly recommend this product. My dog had a split toe nail on his back foot that would not grow out as 1 piece. We had to have the nail removed, so I was going to need a Cone for him. I have to say that this cone absolutely does the job. I did make the mistake of cutting off the 2 rings at the end of it, as I figured it was still past his nose enough, but that turned out to be a mistake - He was able to get to that paw. I wound up using clear packing tape to tape the 2 rings back on and thankfully it worked - he cannot get to that paw now. Yes it looks really long on him, but I take it off for him to eat and drink, as well as when he needs to go for a walk and take care of business. Other than that, the cone gets put back on until the wound is heeled. I did notice that the cone would slip forward and almost start to cover his eyes, so I wound up tying the cone to the top of his collar - which seems to have solved the problem. I am very pleased with my purchase!

Well, after my first experience with this cone collar, I recommend being very cautious about how much you cut off. There are two desnigated spots to shorten the cone. So I wanted the cone to look like the picture. I cut the areas off, so that my dog's snout looked just like the picture. A few inches extending from the dog's nose. While this might be okay when you want them to not bother some parts of the body, it will not work if it is a front leg that needs to be protected. My dog had his front leg wrapped (broken toe) all the way up to his elbow. My pup was able to shove the collar back (banging in walls, the pet door, etc.. I continually tightened down the adhesive strap, trying to keep it on the upper part of his neck. But he was able to get to his bandages on his front leg. Had I to do it over I would have left at least one of the extensions on, instead of cutting them both off. Also, I had to tape down the tabs to keep the cone from coming apart at the tabs. Not sure how he did it. I used clear packing tape to put over the tabs, to keep them from coming loose again. After having him tear away his bandage a couple times, once within 15 minutes of having the clinic wrap him, I had to run into the pet store to get and heavier duty cone, which so far seems to be working. My medium large pup is 7 months old, 58 lbs, and extremely active. An older and more sedate dog might do better with this cone. It is a great concept. Good shape and seemed like it was going to work well, maybe the plastic is too stiff and that's what caused it to break when my dog was running into things. If your dog is calm and not a maniac like mine maybe it'll last a few days.

After I lost a dog to a post op infection after a routine neuter, because he wasn’t given an e-collar by the vet because he left the wound alone in his care. He licked the heck out of his wound and gave himself an infection that ultimately killed him. I now insist that every dog in my household have an e-collar. I discovered that this dog is a real Houdini. She’s found a way to get out of every e-collar I’ve tried. I asked a few vet tech friends (I used to be one too) if there was anything else to try before I resorted to having to give her a sedative anytime she had surgery or a wound like a hot spot. They directed me to this one. I decided to give it a shot. It doesn’t seem to bother her. She hasn’t tried to get out of it. I’m very pleased! It’s also a good thing that I got it when I did. The day after I ordered it, she swallowed part of a pet toy and ended up in emergency surgery. So far so good. No licking, no infection, and she’s resting comfortably in it. I would have included a better picture but despite the procedure, she’s still a live wire. Also I want to give Acrata a shout out. They have wonderful customer service! I had questions before I bought it, and they promptly answered every one. I even initially bought one the next size up, because I went by the chart. It didn’t fit. They made suggestions on how I might make it work, but ultimately it had to return it. I got the next smaller one and it fit great. Even her vet was impressed. He said that he’s going to look into getting some for his other Houdini patients. Edited to add: This collar will shatter if your dog forgets its on and they try to ram their head into a small opening. That's what this doofus did. She so badly wanted to go out an chase a stray cat when I opened the back door. I ended up buying a second collar and having it overnighted to me, but in the meantime I cobbled together a fix using clear packaging tape and a clear placemat. Not pretty but that worked well enough to get me by until the replacement got here.

Normal dog cones do not work on my Irish Setter. He is a long boy with a long snout. I got this hoping it would work better than normal cones, but unfortunately he could still reach his back legs and lick his wounds there. This was also difficult to assemble and the instructions aren’t super clear. I ended up returning it and using a muzzle instead.
