Abigail Adams: First Lady of the American Revolution (Ready-to-Read Level 3) (Ready-to-Read Stories of Famous Americans)

Good basic level 3 book
This is a nice introduction to Abigail Adams for young readers learning about the American Revolution. It doesn’t go into depth about First Lady Adams, but gives a basic background to her.My only complaint is that the author poorly worded the introduction sentence. I understand the authors meaning, but she (inadvertently??) shares that being a wife and mother were/are something less in our culture and life. Abigail Adams would herself argue that being a wife and mother were the highest positions she held, and all of her other accomplishments were in addition to her family.I do however appreciate the information included about Abigail Adam’s beliefs on the status of women during that time, and her influence on her husband, President John Adams.

Good book, given the reading level
Good book, given the reading level. However, I don't find that this book really gives a true picture of who Abigail Adams really was, not does it highlight her many accomplishments.

Good Basic Bio
Good basic bio for younger grades just beginning to read or struggling readers. Gives students an idea of women's roles in the days before the Revolution.

Abigail Adams
I bought this to use in my 6th grade reading classroom. It is excellent to use to teach reading skills such as main idea, author's purpose, or summarizing. I put it in a center and students have 10 minutes to use the book for an assignment. Since it is at a lower reading level, students have success in building skills to use in higher level texts. This book is a good addition to the grade 1-6 classroom library.
