Suspenseful but drawn out. Still a good read.
I wavered between 3 and 4 stars on this one. I liked the book but there were a lot of typos that sort of got annoying. Writers, please don't RUSH to put your book out there until it's been edited properly!! I can't stress this enough. As for the story itself, I did not find this to be a horror novel except maybe in the last chapter. I did enjoy the suspense leading up to the cliff-hanging ending and the characters were developed just enough for me to be interested in them. I wish there had been a little more back story on the family members but it didn't take away from the story line.It took me longer to read this book than I normally take. Perhaps because I just wasn't as into it as others? I don't know. A couple of times I got bored and put it down but I never deleted it from my Kindle. Part of me wanted to hang in there and I was glad I did. The ending is very tense and there's a smidgen of real horror in there...and it left me wanting to read the next book which is why I finally decided on 4 stars.

If you enjoy lonely feeling of vastness, cold, small secluded town where horror happens, READ THIS!
Born and raised Montréalaise myself, I was surprised to find out I accidentally read a book from a Montréal author. I read so many horror books from all different authors but always try to avoid reading from authors from my hometown. For some reason I always feared that I wouldn't like it simply because I know Montreal too well and it wouldn't be as scary or exciting of a read. But again I read it because the story unfolds in another rural town where it snows and has a vast beautiful eerie feeling of vastness and loneliness as I have drove 1-89 so very often.I was so impressed and surprised when I found out at the very end of the book that Patrick is from Montreal. I have obviously never read his books before. I read this book in one setting last night couldn't fall asleep so I decided to read this book and I have enjoyed it very much, couldn't put it down too I finished it.I'm the type of gal who Google's "horror books winter snowstorm" I'm very specific as you can see. My favorite ones are the ones happening in Alaska or Antartica, small group of survivors trying to escape some monster....So like I said if you are into eerie, lonely, vast, snow, cold, small secluded town where horror happens, you will enjoy this book!To Patrick the author, merci merci merci de tout coeur for such a good story telling! I will surely read other of his books as long as it's not situated in Montréal lol!!!!

hard to put down
Skin is a horror book that reminds me of Stephen King's Dreamcatcher. The plot, monster, characters, and writing are all good. I found myself staying up too late at night reading this one. I just couldn't put it down. The Lawrence family is just like every family in America: dysfunctional. But they are all likable in some way.Tis is book one of the series and I will be reading the others. Also Patrick Logan has a wonderful style of writing. So I will probably read his other books outside of this series.

Very creepy and spine tingling book! 💀
Wow! I really enjoyed reading this book!! 😁 it was long but for me it’s long in a way that really pulls me more through the story and I feel more what each character are going through. It made me feel that I was actually living the story through each of the characters. The antagonist was so creepy and gruesome! 😱💀 actually dreamed about this book last night after I stopped reading for the night to continue again the very next day! I loved the blizzard and really extreme cold setting too. It fits right into the theme and concept of the book, makes it even creepier. Also loved the epilogue, it opens right up to the 2nd book! Which I’m definitely reading next! I’m hooked in the Insatiable Series now! 💯😁

Creepy but good
I haven't read horror genre for many, many years. I decided to give it a try since it was free. I got about 1/3 through and wondered if I should finish it or not. It was on my IPad and I had just started a story on Kindle at an appointment and that book gripped me from the first page. However, I've not been one to read two books at the same time and so I decided to finish Skin. I am glad I did. It reminded me of why I liked this genre previously; good vs. evil and of course something very creepy. I thought the writing was good and the characters somewhat believable; especially those that were addicts. I was reading this while it was snowing and I didn't go outside at all! Sent my husband out for grocery shopping! Anyway, I would recommend this book. It reminded me a little of very early Stephen King.

Looking forward to more from Logan
This was a good and creepy sci-fi read from what seems to be a new author, and I'm looking forward to seeing more from him in the near future. Logan shows a unique ability to paint vivid pictures of his characters and their situations with his use of well placed metaphors and naturally flowing dialogue. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get into a new, young author of fiction. A few days after my read and some of the scenes are still running through my head. Nice work!

Creepy as hell!!
Just finished Skin, my first Patrick Logan Novel, and I must say it was definitely worth it. The story honestly gripped me from the start. Every time I stopped reading I just kept hearing “ Comeeeeeeeee “ ( you’ll understand when you read it) but all jokes aside in my opinion Skin was really really creepy. Besides the horribly horrific creature that Lulls you in, for me it was the sheer madness the mind fabricates in times of absolute fear. Especially when your loved ones are on the verge of death. Patrick Logan has a sick and twisted mind that I absolutely Love!! Thank you Mr. Logan!! I will be starting book 2 as soon as I submit this.

Very good horror series!!
As a big Lovecraft, Barker and King fan, any weird horror actually, I was looking for something by an author I haven't read yet. Up pops an advertisement on my Facebook for Skin. I looked at and thought to myself, "That actually sounds good. I'll give it a go." I saw that it was part 1 in a series, so I ordered all three, Skin, Crackers and Flesh. Am I glad that I did. I finished all three in a week. I loved the charcters and the situations that they were put in. I could feel the hopelessness that they felt. The creatures were very well done, and I loved their creepiness. I would recommend this series to anyone who reads horror. It draws you in and doesn't want to let you go.

AN ATMOSPHERIC TALE THAT CHILLS YOU TO THE BONE.
This has a very distinctive feeling to it. Sort of 'Fortitude' if it were written by Stephen King. The story really does hold your attention and the agonies of the characters are realistic, not just from the horror aspects but from the elements they have to endure just to get anywhere. I could really feel the wind, the freezing cold. You could tell someone who lived through these conditions was writing it. It really helped in giving me an atmospheric setting that not many writers can achieve. I actually enjoyed the setting as much as anything..The story was unusual and very tense and I found myself staying up in the dark to read what happened next. There is real talent in this author's storytelling and it is certainly as good as anything I would find on the store shelves. There is no clumsiness in the presentation. This allows you to become immersed in the horror and forget that there is someone's hand behind it. I don't think that anyone that buys this would feel short-changed. The author lets you get close to a character, yet has no qualms about bumping them off - so nothing is predictable. It's a ride and it is no struggle at all to enjoy it.If I had to say anything to the author by way of constructive criticism it would be about the overuse of certain tags. We can be in the middle of sharing a character's viewpoint, but we are then distanced with the constant use of the phrasing 'the guy did this' or the woman did that.' I think if you were to put; 'the woman' or 'the guy or the man' in your word search you'd be shocked at how many times you use it. It keeps us from feeling what they are feeling. I would definitely try to avoid that in future writing and stick to the basic 'he or she' did this or that, this makes the action itself stand out as we already know who is doing it.But, this is a minor point that may not annoy anyone else. The facts remain that this is a thoroughly enjoyable tale written with flare and atmopshere. I look forward to more work from this author and wish him every success.

Poorly executed and unnecessarily padded story that could have been shorter and better.
The book's opening chapters, premise, and diverse cast of characters drew me in quickly. However the writing style unfortunately grated. Repetition of dialogue, scenes, and set up through the different characters hurt the pace of the book. A heavy handed use of sentence extending punctuation also began distracting me, rather than award me a smooth narrative. This could have been whittled down to a shorter and, as a result, more impactful story had the prose and replay of scenes and dialogue been tidied up.

Super scary horror.
Five stars for a book that scared the life out of me, but I didn't want it to end.The story starts with lots of different threads.Cody and his family, Marley his wife and two daughters Corona and Henrietta are traveling to his recently bereaved Mother's house for Christmas, through a raging blizzard.Jared and his partner Seth are also going there through a blizzard!Oxford, a hopeless drug addict is going too, through the blizzard. They are all brothers. The,Sheriff of the small town of Askergan, along with his two deputies, are trying to keep order in a town that is in the middle of a snow storm when the power lines go down.Something is out there, in the backwoods, something that has an insatiable hunger for flesh. It needs to feed to grow. And it is calling in everyone's mind, " Come", a call that they cannot be ignored! This story is proper, gory, horrific, blood thirsty yarn that you will not be able to put down, even though you stomach will be churning at the excellent descriptive dialogue! Brilliant.

Worth the effort
I've been reading quite a few fast paced novels recently, so when I started Skin, I felt its pace was a little slow - it gets going, though, and I did enjoy the gradual degeneration of the characters who encountered the monster, even if I couldn't quite picture the monster itself (maybe that's a good thing)

A refreshing change
Gruesome at times and an interesting take on a well trodden genre. Great cast of characters and definitely worth sticking with to the end. Some unexpected events - no twists - but some ‘well I didn’t expect that’ moments. Will pick up the next in the series at some time.

If i get desperate on holiday i might try and finish it..
To be fair I haven't finished it. That's because the writing style is not to my taste at all. It was, unbelievable, recommended for lovers of King and Barker, which was why I bought it. This is like comparing Mozart with Kanye West! Two chapters were all I managed before putting it down in disgust . Maybe it gets better?

Great horror story that differs from the usual
Gave 4 stars as I am pretty difficult to impress but this book did impress me. It's not easy to find horror stories that differ and a good read. My problem with the story was that the characters didn't communicate with each other. I don't know if that was due to the things presence?? I bought the second book and I am away to read it now.

Good horror
A little disjointed in places but overall a very enjoyable read. Could use more thorough proof reading though. Good stuff.

Nauseous reading, but a good read
Something old and evil lives beneath the earth and it wants to be in the light to live and take over. The people hear its words in their head. “Commmeee” as it draws them trance like to it. Three brothers are called, all doing what they need to do.If you like this genre a bit gory, then you will love this book.
