I am a motorcycle camper who needs to pack compact and light, and I often need my various tools to perform double duties. Poles come in handy for all sorts of things when camping and hiking. The pole comes with a rubber end cap, a "ski pole" stopper, and a clever bag that is mesh on one side (so you can identify its contents and not mistake it for the other drawstring bags you might have...). The extended foam grip is great for both hill walking, as well as two handed extension of the pole (e.g., chopping bush or taking down bear tie-ups for containers, etc.). The adjustable tension wrist strap is also cleverly designed and sturdy. There is also a fair amount of height adjustment easily accessible by a clamp. And, the instructions on how to use the pole's features were clearly illustrated and explained (note: be sure to follow those instructions to ensure that the connectors are properly seated to strengthen the pole when it's extended). It is obvious that a lot of thought and pratical experience went into designing this pole. I had a brief communication with the business' owner, who made himself readily accessible for comments and critiques... I got the impression that this pole is made by somebody who cares about the quality of gear you will rely on. If you use this pole in the field for various tasks, or just hiking (e.g., I hiked some Colorado ski slopes in the summer, some forests in Wyoming and Utah...), I can't see how you'd be disappointed if you need a compact, segmented pole. Perhaps a continuous one-piece ski pole might be stronger in certain conditions... but for the convenience of being able to be taken down to just over a foot, its strength and features will cover 99% of most peoples' needs and expectations. I didn't baby it... I recommend it. It is a solid tool, and I'd buy another one. Review: You can count on a quality product from this seller - This is a very handy pole for general use. One of the best features is that it folds down small enough to fit into a carry-on suitcase. It also comes with a lovely bag, and (like most similar poles) has a choice of three different tips, for three different uses: spike, rubber tip, wider "snow/mud" tip. I used it for helping me stabilize in city walking, where I was putting pressure on it on pavement and uneven surfaces. It does expand upward to be chest-high, but the only disadvantage over other poles was that it doesn't shorten to "cane length" (waist length). It has a very comfortable handle, and a strong system of holding the wrist loop in place at any length, so it can be tightened up to hold the pole at the wrist. The other big plus is it is American Made, and easily gotten through desertcart. A few others I'd tried were made in China and shipping was very inadequate for them (I got two damaged boxes, one of which finally arrived with two hiking sticks in it. Meanwhile, I'd ordered a second one of these poles to be sure to have what I needed.) You can count on getting this pole quickly and safely, and in excellent condition. The seller is very interested in having feedback and in producing a quality product, and is easily reached to make any adjustments.

Good poles for the price
I have several pairs of trekking poles, but I bought these specifically for the fact that they fold down to such a short length. I wanted to be able to tuck them away inside my backpack during a trip to Zion, and then take them out when I was in the canyon for balance. Unfortunately, I left them at home, as I could have used them on that trip. I have used them on several hikes since. On my first outing, I lost my balance, and leaned hard on one pole. It now had a permanent bend in it. PROS: Very compact, fairly sturdy, good values. CONS: Need to be tightened every 30 minutes or so, and both rubber tips fell off on my first hike. All in all, well worth the money.

Great engineering, great price
I haven't had a chance to use this hiking pole while traveling or in the woods, but putting it together at home, I can say this: It comes together easily and quickly, is lightweight but solid, a well-engineered piece of equipment. It really is super light and because it folds up, it easily fits into even a small backpack or carry-on suitcase. It comes with a rubberized tip for use on sidewalks. Pull it off and you'll see a metal point for using in the woods. Keep the rubber tip on and you'll probably get it through airport security. (Otherwise hiking poles are not allowed as a carry on because TSA considers the metal tip capable of potential harm). It also comes with a plastic tip for hiking in the snow. Again, looks like a great piece of engineering at a great price.

Grand Canyon Tested: Down and Back 18 Miles!
My wife and I hiked down the Kabob trail to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back up Bright Angel many years ago when we were 24, with no hiking poles. Even at that age, and in good shape, our knees were hurting from the pounding of the constant downward steps by the time we got to the bottom, and our legs were like rubber when we got to the top. 24 years later, at double the age we took our two 48 year old bodies down and back up the same paths, along with our three daughters, but this time we both had hiking poles we had just purchased and were using for the first time. We had never used poles before. I was blown away. No sore knees. No rubbery legs. Twice the age, and the trip was easier with the poles! These poles did not fail, did not annoy us, no trouble at all. It is important to adjust the straps to be tight enough on your hand that they support your hand when you press down on the pole. That way your grip can be much lighter and your arms don't get tired. For a serious hike like this, you must have two poles. Plant your poles firmly before each step down and lean on them. They help on the way up as well. One not so obvious thing is that when I was hiking with a full pack around obstacles like puddles on the trail, the poles helped me balance and I was able to move past the obstacles without slowing down -- before using poles I would have had to go much slower and use my back muscles and arms to awkwardly balance. One of our sets of poles was these poles, the other was a collapsing (not folding) set by Cascade Mountain Tech, ASIN: B01MUFDBQ9. Both sets performed just as well.

Great Product!!
I have waited to write this review till after our trip to Peru. Now I can say I am more than happy with the trekking poles and will recommend this product to anyone for the following reasons: 1. It is light and compact. It packs well inside small suitcase, backpack or even daypack. 2. It is solid as it is extended and locked in place. The various settings fit my 5โ1โ and my spouseโs 5โ10โ frames perfectly. 3. We hiked the Inca Trail and went on to the peak of Machu Picchu Mountain. We went through both sunny and raining days. The poles provided sure and superb supports that carried us through the exhausting ascend and hair-raising descends. My spouse and I are around 70 now. These are actually the first trekking poles we ever purchased and used in our years of hiking. We are looking forward to use them for the years to come. Thanks for such a great product โ JOB WELL DONE!! Kim & Jerry

A Lifesaver on my Europe tripI
I've got a set of Leki telescoping poles but they're can't collapse down to fit into a day pack and are a bit too long to easily fit into a 22" carry-on so I got these to use on my 1 month trip to Greece and Turkey with Rick Steves Tours. The tours involved LOTS of stairs, uneven and often slippery surfaces, like rock polished by millions of feet on top of the Acropolis in Athens. I needed these because I found my arthritic hip no longer responds to steroids and there was not enough time to recover from surgery prior to a trip of a lifetime. So it became grin and bare it. First, I'm 5' 9" and 225#. I bought the longer pole set, but probably would have done better with the shorter set. The poles easily assemble but do get hung up a bit on the nylon carry sack when trying to remove them from the sack. They easily slip together but you must not forget to finish the job by twisting each section together to lock them into place. Otherwise they feel just a bit unstable and you hear a slight clicking sound as the slightly loose sections move a bit when the pole hits the pavement. They also loosen up a bit with continued use during the day and have to periodically re-tightened, a 15 second job. I mostly used a single pole as a cane throughout my trip, loaning the second pole to a tall woman who was having knee problems. It worked well for her too. The pole really shined when descending stairs and especially when we stood still for several minutes listening to our guide. I was able to transfer about 25-35% of my body weight to the pole which allowed me to take most of my weight off my bad hip. The pole handled this well, with no bending or any sign of complaint. Descending stairs, the pole easily helped control my progress and gave a great feeling of stability. Also works well in a pinch to help you pick up dropped jackets or shoes (you have to remove them when visiting a mosque) when bending over is painful. The only "con" I really found, and it was minor, is the removeable rubber tip on the pole is made of harder rubber that wears well but doesn't grip really well on slippery marble or rock, especially if used at an angle well off vertical. Removing the rubber tip and using the carbide tip easily fixed that issue, but I didn't want to use the carbide tip on marble stairs in museums, etc. so as not to scratch the floors. The carbide tip worked really well on slick polished rock, but I did feel like I was causing more than my share of wear on these ancient ruins. Never had any problems getting the pole past museum security as it was obvious I was using it as a mobility aid. Didn't try to get it through TSA in my carry-on since TSA says poles are prohibited. In summary, I'm glad I bought these as they helped save the trip of a lifetime. They worked really well, were sturdy, comfortable to the hand and wrist, light in weight, and I think well worth the purchase price.

Love these Traveling Trekking Poles!
Love these trekking poles! I bought a pair of trekking poles for my husband (6' tall) and a pair of SHORT trekking poles for me (5' tall). We trained for 9 months with these poles & then traveled with them for our 4 day Inca Trail Hike in Machu Picchu, Peru 2017. They fold down very small so they easily fit in our suitcase, as opposed to others we saw in the airports having to carry their poles on their back packs. They quickly unfold when ready to use, just a few twists and 1 height adjustment and viola, you're good to go! It really saved our knees on descents, and HUGELY helped us on our 4,000' ascent at 10,000' elevation, in the rain! My husband even shared 1 of his poles with a fellow hiker because he was struggling with his balance and did not come prepared with his own trekking poles. We also used these trekking poles in the Colorado Rockies when we went snow shoeing for the first time! And in our local California mountains we used them trekking in hard packed snow with the snow baskets included and again they worked GREAT! We're traveling with them to hike in Scotland/ Ireland/ Iceland on our next trip this year. These poles can be used in so many different hiking, trekking, walking, snow shoeing conditions, 30 min drive away or 12 hour flight away...I highly recommend this purchase! Happy Trails :-)
