What I wanted and expected from a leash
Received the leash today and used it immediately to walk my Vizsla/Ridgeback mix, year-old puppy, Clara. Due to her strength and pulling, she's a challenge to walk. (We're working on this!)Four feet is the perfect length for my dog. I had a good grip on both the end handle and the traffic handle, as needed. Clara was easier to manage - not enough length to yank me around - than when using the 6-foot leash. The hardware on this leash is brass and well-constructed. I have no concerns it will fail in a high-stress moment. The leather itself is thick and strong. The braided sections, which I figured would be the areas of potential weakness, are also sturdy and well-constructed, and I'm not concerned about failure there either. Overall, the leash I received is well-made with good quality leather (not FINE leather as complained about elsewhere, but strong and thick and good enough quality for its purpose). My only real concern (and I don't think this a big one) is the edges of the leash are raw or unfinished. I plan to condition and treat the leather with the same conditioner I use on my shoes to minimize absorbing moisture like rain and to protect the leather from drying out.I'm happy with this purchase. I expect it to last a long time.PS Haven't had it long enough to give a 5-star rating. If I'm still this happy in a year and have no reason not to expect it to keep performing, I'll give it 5.

My go-to leash
Easy to grip, love the heel handle, sturdy, heavy duty but not in a prohibitive way, and feels great to hold. Love the length as well. This leash has been through a lot with my dog and I and has held up perfectly over months of heavy heavy use. Also, I can put the leash through itself and have it rest around my waist and be the perfect length for a handsfree leash that keeps my dog right at my side.Update over a year and a half later:Still holding up strong and still my favorite leash to use out of 20 or so that I have. It works for anything I need it to and has held up well with no damage or signs of wear even after about 2 hours of use a day for a year and a half.

Unburnished, Rustic, Durable
We purchased this leash 4 months ago in the prime of our puppy's teething when she was about 35-40lbs? It has lasted through her shark teeth and still holds up. The leather was pretty stiff when we received it but it has softened up nicely and there is zero color transfer. The double handle part is what probably saves this leash from being bitten through since the braided area/ handle is the part she can reach around and chomp on if she's being a little butt. There is a "soft side" and "rough side" but we don't mind it. She can pull pretty hard but it has held up. The clasp itself is a weapon! Very large and heavy duty. I probably wouldn't recommend this leash for 20lb or less dogs, but for our 50 lb pup- it's a great buy.

My new go-to leash
After an incident of leash reactivity while crossing a very busy intersection, I knew I needed a different leash. I was originally looking for a shorter than my normal 6' leather leash when I came across this one. 3 features sold me on it 1)the double handle 2) shorter length and 3)thicker leash. It's now become my go-to leash that we use daily on my dog's 3-4 mile walk. I've got a short stretch where we need to walk along the side of the road and it's really useful to have the 2nd handle to keep her close. The leash itself is sturdy and seems like it will last years.

Great lead
I love this leash! Perfect length for training, nothing extra to try and hold in one hand and the double handle is great for better control when in a "situation".

Too stiff for my needs
I need to keep reeling my dog in and leather is just not good for that use

Inconsistency in product
I loved this leash so much that I bought another when I got a second dog. By comparison to the first, this leather is much thinner and has two beveled stripes (where my original is thick and solid). On arrival the hardware was lightly corroded which cleaned up fine but the spring clasp had a little wiggle compared to solid and tight on the other. It had been good with a regular flat collar D-ring but a week ago (now past the return window) I started training my dog on a prong collar. This leash has come unclipped from the sprenger 2.25 swivel ring 7 times in 14 twenty minute sessions while the other leash has performed solidly. I even went in and tightened down the brass around the slide clip thinking that would fix it, but it continues to happen. The 2.25 sprenger swivel is small and has a flat edge which I think is catching somehow on the clip, but again no problems with my first leash with the same prong on my other dog. It’s still a beautiful leash and if the clip wasn’t failing and I didn’t have a far superior comparison that is supposed to be the same product, I would love it. So sadly, just beware. Five starts for the first one I ordered but 2 stars here for inconsistency in product and a problem clip.

Updated! So far so good! 100lb GSD
Updated - 03/2022This is the only leash we continue to use! Others have seen rips/tears. This one is still in excellent shape and we use it several times a week. Hands down the best leash we own by far.Original - 04/2020Bought to use for our 18month old 100lb GSD. Picture walking a bull with a shoelace... that’s me and my dog. We use a prong training collar for walks, but his other leash is hard to hold onto when wanting to practice with a short leash, I.e. heal command. This leash has a handle at the base which is comfortable to hold and easy to control. From an aesthetic perspective, this leash appears to be high quality and I love the color. It compliments my GSD very well.

Tough leather and love the second handle for my rottie!
This is a great leash for my 7 mo Rottie who likes to grab onto the leash as we walk. Several other leashes have been destroyed, but this one is holding up well! I love the 2nd handle to control my rottie, but gave 4 stars because I would prefer it to be a little closer to the handle than the collar.

Great leash! Will last us a lifetime I'm sure!
Outstanding quality for the price! Been using the leash for over a month now and it is more and more comfortable at every use. No sign of wear at all, this leash will last us a lifetime! The color is more red in real life compared to the picture, but other than that it is exactly as advertised.

This is a really beautiful leash.
Our puppy has outgrown his first leash and is ready for a nice good leash and boy this is it. Excellent quality craftsmanship and style. With proper care this beautiful leash will last years and years into his life; possibly all of it. How great to buy an American product! Delivery time was as expected. A perfect order. Thank you. As with all quality leather I'd recommend lightly oiling this leash from time to time with a little bit of mink oil to keep it supple.

Its an amazing quality leather leash with traffic handle!
The only thing I wish was different about this is that the bronze clip could be smaller and lighter! Overall its a great leash!

Great leash
This leash is perfect - the length, width, and double handle right at the collar are perfect. My dog is about 60lbs, and this leash gives me a great amount of control. The quality is good, and the clip is very sturdy.
