Excellent phone for the money.
I bought this phone for my wife when she broke the screen on her old phone. My original plan was to use this as a stop-gap until I got the the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, at which time I'd give her my current Galaxy Note. However, she likes the A30 so well, she wants to keep it and I'll trade in my old Note. My wife doesn't use her phone for streaming video, music or playing games. She uses it exclusively for calls, texting, occasionally looking up something on the web, and for navigation with the Google Maps app. Call quality is excellent, the screen is bright and clean (but see note below), and it responds well to "Okay, Google" commands. Some points:- This phone is completely compatible with Verizon, though Verizon thinks otherwise. It uses a nanoSIM and my wife's old phone used a standard SIM, so I had to take it to my local Verizon store. The rep I spoke with first claimed it was not compatible -- apparently, this was because it's not on Verizon's list of compatible phones. I showed him the Amazon listing and he went in the back to research the phone on his computer. He came back and said that it was compatible, but wouldn't work on 4G. We put in the nanoSIM, it booted up fine, went through the initialization process and everything was fine. Checking it later, status indicated that it was on the LTE network, so I think the Verizon rep was wrong. Bottom line: This phone works perfectly on Verizon, it is NOT only for pre-paid plans, and Verizon does not have accurate information. Just insist that it will work and make them try it.- The ads aren't at all distracting. They only appear on the lock screen, in notifications and in a widget on the home screen. The widget can be removed. If you really, really hate the ads, you can convert your phone to the no ad version just by paying Amazon an additional $40. If you're hesitating because of the ads, get the ad-subsidized version; you can always change later.- When the phone first boots up, the screen is set to adaptive brightness. This feature is not particularly effective and results in a dim display in a well-lighted room. Go into settings, turn of adaptive brightness and turn the brightness all the way up and you'll have a nice, bright screen.- The screen is plastic, rather than glass, making it more prone to fingerprints and scratching. You can always get a screen protector.- Build quality is very high. Though the exterior of the phone is plastic, it feels solid and well made. The phone is very thin and light, one of things that made it very attractive to my wife.- It comes with Android Nougat. Though the phone was only released in March, a complete system update was available and installed with no problem. It's very close to stock Nougat, including all Android features.- Call quality is excellent, with clear sound reception and transmission and quite good noise rejection.- Ringtone selection is limited, both in number and variety. However, it was a simple enough matter to install a different ringtone.- The touch screen is very responsive with no perceivable lag time. All in all, this is not only a great basic phone, but a real bargain at the price. If you're looking for a good utility phone for making calls, receiving texts, navigation, and occasional web browsing, this can't be beat and has met all our expectations.

Is it really fare to review a $60 phone
Well it's got to be done so here it is I ordered the Verizon model because let's face it not a lot of Verizon phones for $60. Nice build don't understand why the Verizon version has top grill silver bottom grill black on the front of the phone when the other version they are both silver doesn't look right. Battery life I would say above average but it's a weak phone so not a lot of juice being used by a fast processor or 4k screen. Now a major problem the speaker an absolute miss sounds muffled and tiny at Max volume watching videos o. The screen looks good but doesn't matter if you can't hear it even speaker phone is a miss. In a empty quite room the speaker is only decent. If your buying this phone to just do phone stuff and are okay with below average volume then it's a great deal but if you need to do things on it you will eventually get fustrated at the hanging and stuttering it does. I typed this review on the phone and had to take periodic breaks because the keyboard has lag. One last thing don't know what they used for the front glass but it stays oily and bad to the point screen gets blurry.$60 phone I payed $34 a month for 2 years for my S7 edge this phone is less then 2 payments. Where the S7 was not worth what I payed this phone is you get what you pay for.Updated the review over time the speaker has improved i know some speakers and even headphones have a break in period im not saying this is what happened bit after a week i do see some improvement in the speaker so i will raise one star.I changed my review to one star to bad there isnt negative stars. The lag on this phone is so bad i have to check my typing every few seconds call quality is non existent just try listening to a voicemail and not throwing this phone across the room.

Great price for an unlocked phone
Verizon definitely doesn't have a lot of budget phones, so this felt like a steal. I was hoping this phone would be a lot faster and better than my old LG G2. It's pretty comparable with some newer features (thanks to the newest android version.) Battery life has been pretty good although the phone still gets warm near the top and drains quickly when heavily used (like with google maps.) I had one phone call with poor quality on my bluetooth, but it cleaned right up after switching to the phone speaker. . . still haven't determined if it was the phone's fault, bad reception, or my bluetooth headset. Volume has been fine and clarity is good.ACTIVATION: I was a bit nervous about activation at the verizon store, after reading other reviews, since I didn't have a nano sim and didn't want to try and cut my micro sim to fit as mentioned elsewhere on the internet. The phone was recognized by their system, but then wouldn't activate with the new card in it. The techs were smart enough to activate the new sim card using a different phone IMEI and then transferred the card to my phone. It took them about 5-10 minutes to get everything done.I haven't noticed any interference with amazon ads. I have a kindle fire, and other than the notification ads when the screen first wakes up, there are no annoying intrusions. Honestly, I haven't even paid attention to the products offered so I don't even know if they are relevant.Camera pictures and video are just average. I tried to take a picture of a cardinal and the color was washed out. I also took a picture of a newsletter page with the camscanner app and it was much more readable than the same pictures taken with my old ipad camera, so still good enough quality for quick document capture.Documentation is a little sparse, but it's a pretty straightforward phone. If you are familiar with android on other phones, you should be able to figure this one out. alcatelonetouch.us/a30 is the website for better phone specs. . . the 2 year warranty is a bonus. There is more information at the alcatelonetouch website.Follow up: I've gone back to my old LG G2 phone. The Alcatel is not any faster and the System UI has crashed quite a few times. It reverts back to the original wallpaper each time I restart. The rear camera is more terrible than I thought, and I didn't realize how often I use it to snap photos of documents. I would only use this phone as a backup, but since I already have another spare LG G2, I will probably sell it. Would make a great kid's starter phone. I'll be searching for something else.
