Best Sandy Nelson CD release yet
This vastly underrated drummer of rock's early era gets a workout with this release, probably the best Sandy Nelson release ever on CD. While his solos get a little repetitive over these years, they nonetheless thoroughly entertain. There are great session players on these albums. Audio quality is excellent. Nelson's early instrumentals still hold up and while he didn't have many hit singles, one still wonders why his creative work has not been cited by the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Top notch and thanks to this label for releasing this material.

Great old and original songs by Mr. Nelson.A guy who did more in the business than just play teen drum songs.

Great sound, great music!
The sound quality is excellent. I was concerned about the sound because another CD of Sandy Nelson I had purchased had poor sound quality. The cymbal crashes sound like cymbal crashes.Eight albums and some singles are included. A very comprehensive CD set.

It says "Digitally Remastered for Superior Quality", but When? These have been around for years, I've had better on vynil.
Disc 1, Many track are "Fake Stereo" Those that were True Stereo still are true stereo. But a lot of gems are fake stereo, like "The Flip", "Cool Operator" or "Jive Talk".Disc 2 is identical to old "See For Miles" Let There Be Drums/Drums Are My Beat CD release in both track listing and sound quality. Tracks 1-9 Mono (the Let There Be Drums LP). For the old "Drums Are My Beat" LP tracks on disc 2, tracks 10, 11,12,13, 14, 15 & 19 are true stereo, Track 19 "Day Drumming" is fake stereo, the rest have a mono sound, but it is clear they are rechanneled from the original "fake stereo" track from the LP masters, as some sound so echo like, none more so than "Drums are my Beat" where it sounds like there are two pianos playing the lead (to hear how it should sound, go to ace Records site and find the CD "London American Label Year by Year 1962", you can preview the track and hear how clear and simple it is compared to the one here). On CD 3 you get true stereo (except track 22), and it's great to hear "here we go again", for the first time in many years for me. Track 22 is MONO, but sounds so distorted (but as it is clearly "Drum Roll" (track 10 on CD 2) speeded up a touch you haven't lost much.CD4 is all true stereo except track 15 "Jump Time" but this is just a fake stereo version of "Bouncy" that is in MONO as track 6 on CD 2.All in all I'm sort of disappointed that the "digitally remastered..." statement made me impulse buy.Maybe ACE Records will do Sandy Nelson justice, and release these tracks. If you already have the "See Fore Miles" or the recent "Jasmine" Sandy Nelson CDs, then only CD4 on this set is an improvement. It's worth pointing out that Sandy Nelson himself is still drumming, but won't get much from these pre-1963 (out of copyright here in the UK) recordings.

Great value.
Excellent way of acquiring those hard to get early albums. The hard core collector will have them but a great buy for the casual collector who may have come late to Sandy's work.
