Black Widow: The Itsy-Bitsy Spider

I love Romanov, but would love to see more of Belova! Funny, I purchased this along with Inhumans by Paul Jenkins and was all smiles when a certain someone made a brief cameo!! That is what made me into the Marvel fanboy that I am today!!

If you like spy stories, then his trade is for you! It's one of the best sories in this type of comic book genre.

The two stories here feature the rivalry between Natasha Romanov (original BW) versus young BW wannabee Yelena Belova.Naturally Natasha always wins hands down. This is very much in the tradition of cold war spy versus spy and the plots always feature Nick Fury in his oedipal-like role overseeing Natasha.The drawings for the first story are terrific - not so with the second story which features a wash technique which does not seem as suited for this genre.

If you can't have all the books, of Black Widow, let's say only one, choose this. This is the one.Devin Grayson did an amazing job giving real shading and depth to Natasha RomanoffJ.G. Jones really gives some impressive artwork especially with the face expressions and body gestures.Scott Hampton’s art for the second half of this book is a surprisingly nice fit for a Black Widow book, featuring a wash technique art.The first story, is brash, bold and colourful, with it's words and sounds, we get this big James Bond explosions, mysterious serums,warlords and massive guns, while the second one is very much in the tradition of cold war spy versus spy, tone down story.The spy stories and “humanity” of Natasha lend itself naturally to a less “ high superhero story style” , and the results hereare pretty cool.

I love the character and this story.
