Letting go of being ripped off
This is a great book that I have lent out countless times from my home library. I was a bit bummed when I opened it to find a price sticker left on it that said $2.00. I paid $21.95. Considering what the book is actually about.... Letting Go..... I'm letting go of the feeling of being ripped off.

Helpful & Insightful
I love the way Melody Beattie approaches the healing & recovery process, especially in regards to utilizing the 12 steps of Codependents Anonymous. It's important not to further traumatize, blame & shame victims of narcissistic abuse & domestic violence, and the other 12 step systems do just that. It's also incredibly important for survivors and recovering codependents to know that there are other ways of recovery & healing and that we have the freedom to choose our own higher power, healing journey, and spiritual path. When we've been abused emotionally, physically, psychologically, financially, and spiritually, many of us lost our sense of self, and now we're working on finding our authentic self and regaining our right to autonomy. Being told that there's only one way to heal can be a turn-off and pushes people away. I like how Melody gives recommendations and guides the reader to explore themselves when they're ready. I could go on, but I have a CoDA meeting to facilitate shortly, and I need to prepare.

Singing ๐คI'm starting with the woman in the mirror
One of my great mentors recommended The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie and I chose to purchase both versions ( this one and the one with the yellow backing). There's motivation and encouragement with each day's wisdom. It seems to be right on track with my life each day. It helps me to be considerate of others and I like slowing down and enjoying life or "smelling the flowers"/"taking the scenic route" and getting to know others. I now am able to understand the world around me better and have more compassion and respect for the next person. Reading these books along with another one recommended to me by an amazing therapist of mine, Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab, have improved my mind and attitude in a gracious way. When people ask how I've changed I recommend them all.

life-changing
While whole books on codependency can be hard to process effectively all at once, this book and its sequel break down massive ideas like enmeshment into tiny chunks that are applied as simple principles day to day. It enables you to practice these ideas instead of just taking in a huge amount of overwhelming information about how you relate to others, if this is a way of relating that is an issue for you. I have used this book and the sequel as daily morning reads for over five years. I switch between books each year and reviewing the lessons in each one has helped me navigate significant life events like breakups, international moves and challenges at work and at home. If you struggle to let others do their own thing and to have an internal sense of autonomy regardless of how others act, I cannot recomment it enough.

Great Content, Poor eBook Delivery
I downloaded the Kindle version of this title and this review is mostly about that. The content of "The Language of Letting Go" is great. There is a lot of good advice and gentle prompts toward seeing situations for what they are. The writing is basic and easily accessible. The Kindle version of this title is terrible. This feels like an early-ePub conversion and makes for a lousy reading experience. I really do wish Amazon would include ebook format information with the ebook listing in the Kindle Store--depending on the generation, Kindles will works with ePub3, ePub2, PDF, Mobi, and KF8 formatted ebook files. Amazon will include trim size information for the print books, and this should be no different. I want to know what I am purchasing beforehand. The ebook version of this title was not worth the $9+ price tag.

Spot-On
I used one of the readings in this book and one of the readings in its sequel, "More Language of Letting Go," as the topics in a recent 12-step meeting I was called on to lead. I was a little bit fearful about using these books, as this was not a meeting of the 12-step program that might be most naturally associated with Ms. Beattie and her writings (although a close cousin). The second person to speak up after I opened the meeting for sharing confirmed my belief that these books were "spot-on," and so I have chosen that as the title of my review. (You know who you are, should you ever read these words, and I thank you once again.) I first discovered this book just over two years ago when I experienced the first temporary break-up with my partner, a break-up that would happen several more times over the succeedings months and only recently happened in such a way that I intend to be permanent. At the time of the first break-up, I turned to this book for reassurance that I was not a bad person for wanting out. Now, two years later (and having discovered the sequel in the meantime), the affirmations I'm finding in it are much deeper and much more positive affirmations. Of course, it's obvious from the title of the book that these little readings, usually about a page or so in length, are directed most specifically towards those who have decided that "letting go" is an appropriate response to a particular person, place or thing in his or her life. And it's amazing how often Ms. Beattie says things that I have personally experienced, although often without sufficient insight at the time to realize that I was experiencing them. It's as though she has the ability to put my feelings into words. For me, the hardest thing to do when reading this book is to restrict myself to the reading for that particular day. I have finally given up. When I feel the need to, I just read on or skip to a different section of the book. I am always encouraged by what the author has to say. I gave "The Language of Letting Go" five stars because that is the maximum I am allowed. If it were up to me, I'd give it a hundred. This book and its sequel are the best of the many meditation books I have been through. Most enthusiastically recommended.

Melody Beattie is a brilliant, bright light in this world. <3
Melody Beattie is a brilliant, bright light in this world. Her first book, โCodependent No More,โ is an absolute game changer *if* youโre ready, willing, and able to take an objective look at your life as a codependent and assume responsibility for changing *your role* in your relationships. โThe Language of Letting Goโ is a beautiful companion to her original work, which offers 365 daily readings, dated January 1 through December 31. Each reading ends with a โmeditationโ that could be in the form of a prayer (โToday, God, help me know how I can take care of myself.โ), a reminder (โToday, I will remember that I donโt have to hide behind being right.โ), an action (โToday, I will let go of my big and little guilty feelings.โ), or a combination. Most of the readings are no longer than a page, which makes it easy and enjoyable to keep up with, yet serves to regularly and consistently encourage and support you in becoming codependent no more. I am forever grateful to you, Melody Beattie, for your perseverance, for sharing your experience and your lifeโs work, and for your wise guidance. <3
