yes, very well when used as instructed.

Should I go liquid or gel?

I haven't used the liquid, but the gel is great. It takes a small amount to cover my face and seems to absorb well. I've noticed a considerable difference in ingrown/irritated hair reduction since using. This bottle has lasted numerous months because you don't use very much per application. Well worth the money!
