You don't need the light, the activator is the gel itself. The light will only dry out your teeth making it appear more white for a few minutes until saliva saturates them again.

Is it safe to use this once a day, for more than a month?

You may experience some teeth sensitivity .

Is this once a month or everyday kinda thing?

It's for one week (morning and evening) every six months.

2 mos past expiration... is it still safe to use?

I used a tube that had expired. It's strength is affected perhaps but it didn't do anything harmful.
