God designed men to seek out adventure. But, somewhere between childhood and the struggles of yesterday, most men lose sight of those dreams. Fear not: bestselling author and counselor John Eldredge is here to teach men that there's a better way to live. In this updated and expanded edition of the timeless bestseller Wild at Heart , Eldredge unpacks man's search for validation, the need for the development of courage in his soul, and the call to live a life of adventure. Using discoveries from his own life and backing them with scripture, Eldredge reminds men that although their childhood passions, dreams, and desires may start getting buried under deadlines, pressures, and disappointments, it doesn't have to be this way. In fact, God made men to embrace a life of courage, adventure, and freedom. He created men to take risks and find true purpose and belonging. Wild at Heart invites men to experience wholeheartedness by: Recovering their true masculine heart Healing the wounds and trauma in their stories Delighting in the wildness they were created to offer the world Discovering the life-giving power of nature Helping them to discover the truth about what makes them come alive Join Eldredge as he calls men to discover the true secret of the masculine soul and finally start living the life God intended for every man. Review: A must read for all men (and women!) - After first reading Captivating (female reader here), I decided to pick up Wild at Heart to get a better perspective on what men face to learn how to better support the men in my life. Wow, I had no idea how passionate I would feel about this conversation! It is VERY needed in today's landscape. As someone who had previously fallen victim to some of the skewed views on gender in culture, I've since been seeking to understand God's heart for masculinity and femininity. His design for men and women is beyond our wildest imaginations and it is perfect. Any other idea that we have simply falls short of His amazing design which is more fulfilling for us in the end. I have seen in my own life that all suffering, whether our own or the suffering around us, is a result of sin which is anything that is outside of God's plan and design. And we have greatly sinned as a society when it comes to understanding the hearts of men and failing to inspire them to be the warriors they were designed to be! But it's never too late and there is always hope. I hope to share this with as many people as I can and encourage you to read it, whether you're a man or not; much can be learned :) Review: Life Changing - This book litelly changed my life in a good way. My relationship with my Father God has become more intimate, and I've developed friendships and allies from other men that have also read this book. If you are tired of "religion" and long to live a life that's meaningful, genuine, and has real "weight" to it, then give this book a read. I always have several copies to hand out to men in need. Give it a read and get your heart back!!

Powerful Book for Menโs Growth and Faith
Iโve been listening to Wild at Heart as part of a menโs Bible study group from church, and it has been a really impactful experience. This book speaks directly to the heart of what it means to be a man, especially when it comes to faith, purpose, and leadership. What I appreciate most is how relatable it is. It doesnโt feel overly complicated or hard to follow, but it still challenges you to think deeper about your life, your role as a husband and father, and your relationship with God. Listening to it in a group setting has made it even better because it opens up real conversations with other men who are trying to grow in the same areas. If youโre looking for something to strengthen your faith and give you a better understanding of yourself as a man, I highly recommend this book.

ALL WOMEN NEED THIS THRILLING TRUTH ABOUT MEN, TREAT MEN AS MEN, STOP TRYING TO CHANGE THEM
I am a woman. I bought this, again, because it is updated. I purchased the original book years ago. Its reality spoke to my heart. I bought a copy for my son and his wife. And, every opportunity, I see it appropriate, I recommend it be read and taken to heart. I think that if all women took this truth about mens' wildness at heart, they will understand what has been missing in relationships between men and women. PERIOD. THIS IS A KEY READ!!! DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO MISS OUT ON ANSWERS YOU HAVE LONGED FOR... It does not matter how the wildness at heart, in men, manifests itself, what matters is that men and women recognize it is there, within, aching to be acknowledged and respected and honored. Many cultures do not allow males the freedom to be who they really are, or, support women to truly know what is missing within themselves. I BELIEVE ALOT OF MARRIAGES ARE ON THE ROCKS, FOR WOMEN FAILING TO RESPECT MEN, THEREFORE, MEN EXPERIENCE DIFFICULTY LOVING WOMEN, AS THEY ARE MEANT TO BE LOVED. CALL IT AN IDENTITY CRISIS AND KNOW THERE IS SOLUTION. MEN NATURALLY WOULD FIND IT DIFFICULT LOVING SOMEONE WHO PUT THEIR BEST FOOT FORWARD, UNTIL AFTER THE RELATIONSHIP WAS SECURED. THEN THE TRUTH COMES OUT, THAT MOST WOMEN DO NOT KNOW HOW TO RESPECT MEN. UNFORTUNATELY, THEN WOMEN WONDER HOW IT WAS THAT THEY DID NOT SEE HOW UNLOVING HER MAN COULD BE, BEFORE IT WAS TOO LATE. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I WHOLE HEARTEDLY SUGGEST THIS BOOK IS FOR BOTH, MEN AND WOMEN, SO THEY BOTH KNOW EACH OTHERS' TRUE IDENTITIES AND WALK TOGETHER, IN BLISS, NOT IN CHAOS. IT HAS BECOME INSULTING TO WOMEN TO SUGGEST THAT THEY KNOW THEIR PLACE, BUT WITHOUT KNOWING EACH OTHERS' PLACE, CHAOS DOES ENSUE. WOMEN HAVE BEEN LED TO THINK IT IS OKAY TO WALK ALL OVER MEN, AND, MEN BALK IN MANY, UNLOVING, WAYS, WHEN THEY ARE NOT RESPECTED. NO MAN WANTS TO BE DISRESPECTED, JUST AS, NO WOMAN WANTS TO BE UNLOVED. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE CHAOTIC. READ THIS BOOK WITH AN OPEN MIND TO SEE THE PATH TO RECONCILATION BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN... READ THIS FOR YOUR CHILDREN, SO YOU CORRECTLY ROLE MODEL A GOOD MARRIAGE, PREVENT DIVORCE, AND, SAVE THEM, AND, GENERATIONS TO COME, ALOT OF HEARTACHE. YES, I ENVISION THIS MUCH VALUE WITHIN.

A look at this book...ten years back.
It's been a decade since I read this book, about being a man and at the time letting myself be wild some. I remember being encouraged by this book, gave a copy to at least one friend...who still hasn't taken in the message I don't think, sad to say. I was such a well tamed fellow at the time, who in one weekend gave himself as a man and a believer permission to say "yes" to his own wildness. I was shamed greatly by my (Evangelical Orthodox) church at the time. My crime was in going with a local expression of the men's movement, the only place then I could get permission to be a guy. In my town we were taught for years by a feminized Protestant Evangelical Christianity culture (google Frederica Mathewes-Green on Men and Church)that any such wildness would be, of course, sin. Hats off to this author for his writings and work with men, attempting to tell another side of the gospel story. I was taken by the heart felt tale of his losing his best friend in an early death and how he came to grips with this wound as a Christian man. And, I am impressed today again to go back and find over 900 Amazon Into The Wild reviews. Nice. People are still reading this book; 80% no doubt women buying the work for their husbands, as is the book trend in his Evangelical market. And good for him. The work is getting done, none the less. Even a decade later. I gave Eldredge and his book four stars here, mainly because of his comments on sexuality and being a man. I found them simplistic, the basic party line and dull. And not helpful. They were perhaps written way too early in his young life I think as a guy with yet small boys. I fear to say he has a small brain approach here to eroticism and the forces behind masturbation and erotica in general. But maybe he's learned a thing or two in the last decade since publication, been exposed perhaps to the likes of In Vitro video we have now of young men masturbating to orgasm in the womb. (See the TED talk by science writer Mary Roach on the ten things you didn't know about orgasm.) I'll have to go back to his book Desire, too, and take a second look. I remember being encouraged by these works of his at the time. I think he was running then a men's "Wild Man" type retreat in Colorado. Good for him...a lot of yet wounded men are out there who love God, need help and are not getting any. Did I just say, "not getting any"? My, my. Hurray for a little wild side. Wild at heart meets desire. Yes, sign me up.

Wild at Heart is a most excellent book that begs the question of what has happened ...
Wild at Heart is a most excellent book that begs the question of what has happened to males in our post feminist world. Decades of misinformation and cultural erosion have rendered most men absent or impotent in our (specifically the American) society, which this book seeks to explain. Academic blurring of the genders, special interest propaganda and social engineering have all endeavoured to homoginize men and women without regard to what makes each sex unique. Make no mistake, this is no bleeding heart psycho babel attempt to discern what ails us, nor is it some chest thumping macho chauvinist work which makes a caricature of real masculinity. Quite the contrary, the book addresses both of these mentalities as the farce they are and seeks rather to understand the true driving force of a mans heart, and what God intended for him to be. Despite the unabashed Christian stance of the book, this is not an attempt to convert through indoctrination. Regardless of what your views on religion are, the books applicability is similar to that of Alcoholics Anonymous. You don't have to believe to see that it works. My atheist brother, who provided me with my first copy, gained a lot of understanding from reading this. That being said, though the book focuses primarily on men, Eldridge spends quite a bit of time also exploring women and how they relate to us. I would encourage any woman to take the time to read this book, as it will not only illuminate much of the heart of the men in your life, it will also directly deal with some of the impacts they (especially Fathers) have had on you, whether positive or negative. Most importantly, Eldridge does not simply point out what is wrong. He goes on to show how these failures can be addressed and amended. How you can start working to be the man you should be, rather than accept the shadow of manhood that you are. How to move on from the failures of your past, and embrace rather the wildness that is buried in your heart. I highly recommend this book to anyone, male or female, old or young, Christian or not. As a father of boys, this book has helped me to recognize the failures of my own father and strive to not repeat them. As a husband, it has helped me understand how to be a servant to my wife, and a protector to our family. As a man, it has opened my eyes to the driving desires of my own heart, helped me recognize the lies I tell myself and have been told, and helped me understand the importance of what it really means to be a Man.

Wild at Heart is a classic
Wild at Heart is a "go to" book for men, fathers and father figures. Filled with helpful information, we also used videos by the author at our weekly Brotherhood of St. Patrick meetings. Highly recommended for helping you become the man God created you to become.
