If just slightly better quality this would be a 4-5 star product (& still recommend as alternative to clip-style)
Honestly - I actually really like this reading light - it's perfect for my needs. I really wanted to give it 4 stars - and I still highly recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to the clip-style reading light. It wraps around your neck & each side is independent of the other with 4 settings - low, medium, high white light & 1 with a red light (which i assume would be for jogging or something). It also has an auto-shutoff feature where it automatically turns off after a certain amount of time (something like 30 min I think). I'm able to read with just one side turned on low or medium (depending on how long a day it's been). The reason I had to give it 3 instead of 4 stars is this:> Quality - the batter case to be specific. I immediately did not like the battery cover. It has a little foam pad that they've put on it (since it rests on the back of your neck) - on mine it's skewed & off centered. I could live with that...but within a week it has completely broken & will no longer stay on. I picked it up last night & took a few steps - wasn't even touching this part of it - the cover just popped off & as it hit the ground the little nub that latches it into place broke off...so now it won't clip on. Thankfully we have an abundant supply of that self-adhering athletic wrap & that worked perfectly to hold it on there since otherwise the batteries would be directly against the back of my neck (& I imagine pretty uncomfortable).>Low Light Output on the Highest Setting when compared to High setting on clip-on reading light. First - let me reiterate - this does provide me with more than enough light to read. I can read using just 1 side on the low or medium setting (in a room that has no lights & blackout curtains). But - when I got this I also bought one of the clip-style ones. When both sides of this are on the highest setting the light output doesn't hold a candle to the high setting of the clip style one (which cost less than this). So if you're looking for significant light - this may not be for you. Honestly - for me - this is actually a good thing - I don't want or need a ton of light when using this in bed since I share my bed with my toddler son & his father - the second I get into bed my son rolls over & is pressed up next to me, anything too bright will disturb him. But since this has so many settings I still think the light output should be comparable to similar products when on the highest setting, and I can't say that it is.Like I said - I would still recommend this to anyone looking for an alternative to the clip style - so long as you don't need a super bright light. The clip-on I have will seriously light up a room - so if you're looking for that kind of light this won't work for you. Otherwise this is a great option for anyone who tends to read paperback books (since clip-ons are such a pain with those!).

Nice light, and stays put
My husband likes to watch TV with the lights dim, and this allows me to crochet without the light bothering him while we watch. Bought this to replace a different handsfree light that got increasingly unreliable and then died after a couple years of use. I'd always disliked the way the other was hard to adjust and keep at the proper angle while I was crocheting or reading. This one is a big improvement - adjustable and bendable to point in whatever direction is desired. It has low, medium and bright settings, plus a red light setting. Each side has its own control switch, so they can be adjusted independently. Takes 2 AAA batteries. My two complaints are that 1) it will spontaneously turn off every once in a while...after maybe 20-30 minutes of continuous use. Not sure if this is a defect just with mine, or if it's a factor of something overheating or what...but since it turns right back on again I'm inclined to keep it rather than try to go through a return/replacement.And 2) Compared to the other kind I had before (which had a large rectangular light), these aren't super bright, even on maximum setting. But that's probably a trade off for the nice, compact size, so it's not a big deal. Still quite bright enough, I just don't foresee using the lower light settings.

Excellent
I have to admit I was very skeptical of this product. I thought the lights were gonna be too low for the day time. I bought them for my mom. My mom is elderly but she loves to sew and when the days are gloomy, she needs a little help seeing. I showed her the lights and although she was even more skeptical than me, she asked me to buy them. When I opened them, I thought that they were just junk. They are super light and cheap looking. Once I installed the battery and turned on the light, I was even more disappointed to confirm that there was not enough light. However, it was just the first setting. The device has 4 settings, 3 of which are regular light. The 3 setting is very bright and works like a charm for my mom. She was very happy because they are light and comfortable for her. The 4th setting are red lights, which we assume are like warning lights for the night time. I would definitely repurchase once they wear out. I read from other reviewers that they do not last. i really don't mind if they last a few months or even a year. I didn't expect them to work at all, so I am happy if they last her a few months, I will buy her another set once they go bad.

Great light; awful battery door
I have tried four different lights of this basic type, and this one has the best lighting setup of all of them by far. The white LEDs can be set to three different brightness levels, and the reds lights are nice to have. I'd give it 5 stars but for the battery door, which is horrible and badly in need of a total redesign. The battery door practically flies off the thing spontaneously if you don't get it locked just right, but then the locking tab breaks off completely if you try to make sure it's locked. You are just about guaranteed to have a broken battery door within a month or two. The seller sent me a replacement for the first one, but the second one then broke soon thereafter. Rather than keep battling this poor door design, and losing, I finally bought a soft Velcro strap and wrapped it around the door. As annoying as a screw-on battery door can be, this product needs to have its cheap, plastic locking tab replaced with something, be that a screw or whatever. Other than that (very fixable) design flaw, this is the best light out there.
