NETGEAR M5200 WiFi 6 Mobile Hotspot 5G Router.

The good: It works, and it would do the job for most people. I can get between 100 to 300Mbps depending on the time of day and weather, i.e. decent 5G speeds, in London. This router's probably the best if you need the absolute maximum speeds as its internal antennae are great. The bad: - 5GHz WiFi band has an even smaller range than a typical router. - User interface is rubbish, even a BT HomeHub page looks better. - Device can't forward texts to another number, so whilst the SIM can be set up to forward calls to another number, texts won't be. This is should be an easy software feature, but NETGEAR haven't implemented it. - Router interface lacks many software features, e.g. a built-in speedtest. This router seems like one designed to be used by connecting to another router to do the work for it. Update 10-01-2022: After using this for a few months, my internet connection stopped working. I found out that key APN settings such as MCC are locked so the router could not find my EE signal, and kept defaulting to 3 UK. Additionally the SIM card is now quite bent, which isn't a big issue if you're able to get a free replacement easily. I've sent in a return request and I've purchased a Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 for half the price of this Netgear M5 router. Update 08-03-2022: Returned to this device after trying 3 other well known 5G routers which all performed significantly worse than this router.

One of the best purchases I have ever done. I have been able to work from literally anywhere, in the middle of constructions sites, remote areas in the UK and abroad. Very easy to use and set up, battery holds charge perfectly, small and produces a nice signal. I have used connecting 5 laptops and 4 phones at one time whilst broadcasting live online webinars and events with no flaws in the signal. Pricey, yes, but reliable.

OK - it is expensive but I promise you it works. It has replaced my Virgin router. I run 2 business on this. My partner works from home too, so we are both on this all day. The TVs run on it. This month alone it has process 869 Gb of data - which is typical of the monthly load. Let's not forget I can take it away with me when on holiday. At one point I was paying over £200 per month for TV, landline and internet + mobile. I now pay £18 per month which covers internet and TV streaming. The router that came with the £18 mobile deal was awful. This router solved the problem. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

You don't need to read a review to reach the conclusion that this router is utterly expensive. Netgear is probably making an outrageous margin on it. I bought it, however, because I need a stable, reliable, and fast 5g connection for work. It broke my heart to spend so much money on a gimmick that will probably be obsolete in a few years. Having said that, I was positively surprised by the overall quality of the product. The dual MIMO antennas work very well, and the battery life is excellent. Some people complained about the interface, but frankly the current iteration is very good, and works very well with me. Even better is the http interface, which provides lots information and useful features. If the 5g worked rather well with Three UK in London, I must say that the speed and reception quality was significantly better in France with Free mobile. Indoors reception was also much better: whereas in London I had to place my router outdoors and connect it to my computer with a long ethernet cable, in France I would not even have to be concerned by reception quality. This little machine even enabled me to live broadcast my grandma's funeral from inside a church in rural France. The family members who could not make it that day were very pleased with the image and sound quality. Since the router was also connected to a portable loudspeaker, I was also able to cast music in the church simultaneously, without any lag whatsoever. It's true that the WiFi range is not comparable to a home router, but it's good enough to create a hotspot in a roman church of about 400 square meters. I'm now writing this review from a TGV speeding at 320 km/h, on my way back to London, and even if the network sometimes swithes to 4g+, I can enjoy an even better connection than the onboard WiFi proposed by SNCF. Since I don't like to waste batteries, I can tether the router to my laptop with a usb-c cable, which also improves data transfer speeds. So, all in all, a very good product from Netgear that will probably get cheaper in the years to come. I still want to figure out how to connect the router to external antennas, and whether the Db gain is worth the investment. For the time being though, this little device has become indispensable, it has converted all my devices (tablet, phone, laptop, etc) into de facto 5g devices, and provides peace of mind for those who need at all times a stable and fast connection for work and family. ---- UPDATE ---- After a few months of use, the connection became increasingly unstable, even when sitting next to my provider's 5g antenna. It would stop working for days showing a "No signal" or "Cellular data off" error message. It worked sometimes by doing a hard reset of the device. When I got in touch with NETGEAR support, my interlocutor suggested this could be a problem of my mobile operator. But my operator's support service assured me that they did not prevent clients from using their simcard in a router, and that their fair use policy was well beyond my actual needs. Furthermore, I used the other sim cards from other operators in different locations, and got the same problem. They have been unable to this date to help me. I really wanted to like this product, but all in all it's been a major disappointment. Buyers beware!

Great device and ui on screen is easy to navigate. It has some great specs but due to the price I can’t give it 5star id expect longer WiFi range for that and better UPnP for the price on games consoles I have a double Nat which is the first for me and often UPnP is unsuccessful. This is used as a back up device for me though and when out travelling so I can’t complain to much

Firstly, the Netgear MR5200 5g mifi box replaces a highly rated huawei 4g mifi device. The old box achieved a download of ~20-25 mbps. The MR5200 achieves a standard 250-330 mbps download. I've linked the MR5200 box to a Netgear Orbi Pro wifi-6 mini router using a cat 8 ethernet cable, and the range extends throughout our 3 bedroom apartment. This is an exceptional mifi router, given its ease of use, dependability and connectivity of mobiles, laptops, printers, speakers, etc., typical of a family property.

Great router, works very well, Its our main Internet access at home and we take it away in our caravan and its never failed. Easy to install, and configure. I would have preferred SMA connectors as opposed to the ts9, as the cables can drop out, but a minor grip. A lot of money, but a lot of router!

For the price I got exactly what I wanted. Good support while waiting for the delivery. I am really pleased to have this device in hand. Canada, Quebec, with Bell my follow friends ! Took me half hour to set everything up BY MYSELF.

The WIFI coverage is poor even it is set to long range for such an expensive router.

I opted for one of those Vodafone unlimited 5g data only Sims because my DSL wifi was not cutting the mustard after getting off that fiber from my last flat. While I felt HOSED with my plan while comparing speeds from the little alcatel 4g hot spot being sold for 70 at the provider, it was only getting between 23 and 30 VS 90 to 100 on DSL wifi if I kept the door open but this became a game changer. I don't even have an antenna on this and I'm getting 960 in this moment on 1 device and 680 on another device in another room. So while dsl wifi was giving me 120 at best (same room as router) I'm now getting way better than that no matter which room I'm in. Also, if a demand for better strength exists, i just grab the Puck and move it closer to target. But so far league's better than dsl wifi 6 Lots likely has to do with the towers near you. (refer to online guide/map that shows where all towers for each provider is). Note: choose provider with the most towers near the location you will use this Ie there are actually 5g towers closer than the 4 to me hence the 4g router being garbage. That was a waste of money but was hoping it would be good enough to not spend over 700 lol nerp. While this is expensive it's kind of great for being able to on the fly check whose connected to what data points you configure and even let's you block or allow devices without logging into the browser as just the device itself. Cat 5 port works as expected even if using a USB dongle. Option to put in passthru to a rooted VPN router would also be too easy. You can even hook up an offline device to configure your router so that your phone, etc won't know your admin password. Lots of great security features and overall a great future proof device. Expensive though. Hopefully some used one's/black friday become available to make the more affordable for everyone. This would be amazing for travel, on the go office internet. The functionality is great, at some point I will have to pick up one of the higher end antennas in case I go somewhere that does not pick up 4 or 5g well. Of course changing dns etc helped increase speed by about 20 to 30 when I checked. Currently using it on 4 devices and none of them experience lag. I did have to change the default timeout/power saving settings though. Conclusion: Even my 5g phone cannot Hotspot at these speeds. If you only browse, don't stream and don't need bandwidth like that then save your money. If you want a portable Hotspot robust enough to go 247 with spare battery options and wide range of antennas then this is for you. This is significantly faster than my dsl but kept DSL for my NAS, servers and lab environment.
