DEWALT Battery Adapter 18V to 20V, For Drills, Sanders and More, Charger Not Included (DCA1820)

The DeWalt adapter works great for converting older 18V tools to use the newer 20V batteries. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do, but it will not accept the larger 60V FlexVolt batteries. Still, it’s a very practical solution because it lets you run modern batteries on older DeWalt tools, saving you from having to replace tools that are still perfectly functional but use obsolete battery packs.

This works great. It does add a little bulk but if you have a dewalt that uses the older batteries you can't get anyone more this is a great option to make the newer batteries fit.

It is nice to have an option which allows me to use my older 18V Dewalt tools with the newer 20V batteries. Works great!

The product works as described. I went with Dewalt because I trust the brand. However, it is difficult to remove from the tool. I would have thought that Dewalt would have designed it better but it does work and has extended the life of my 18v tools. I'll probably have to make my own tool to remove the adapter more easily.

These are durable and light

These adapters are a great way to extend the lives of 18V DeWalt tools by standardizing on the 20V platform. I have an old but reliable set of 18V DeWalt tools and several newer 20V tools and maintaining two different battery platforms was not ideal. These adapters allow all to work with one battery type and one charger. There are two downsides to be aware of. First, the adapters are easy to install but can be difficult to remove so getting one for each tool is best. Also, the adapter increases the overall working size of the tool making it slightly heavier. This is not a huge problem in most cases but the extra length can render a circular saw unusable at some cut depths. This is because the battery may stick out too far to clear the workpiece. I use the 2AH battery to get around this problem on my particular saw. Other models may not require any extra attention.

Durable, well-made adapter with a few caveats:1) The active electronics in this adapter generate a once-per-second flicker on 18V worklights, e.g. the DW919, using either an LED bulb or the original Xenon bulb. Off-brand copycat adapters with only wires in them do not flicker.1a) Remove your battery from this adapter during storage to prevent the adapter electronics from slowly discharging your battery.2) The 2 tabs you see protruding forward PREVENT installation of the following batteries: 5Ah PowerStack DCBP520, 6Ah XR DCB206, 8Ah XR DCB208, 10Ah XR DCB210. The largest batteries that may install on this adapter are the smaller XR's: 5Ah DCB205 and 4Ah DCB204.2a) The 2 large 'compact' batteries 4Ah DCB240 / 3Ah DCB230 have a large footprint which extends forward 0.7" further than other batteries and could interfere on a circular saw, e.g. DC390.2b) The XR batteries that do fit this adapter (4Ah DCB204 and 5Ah DCB205) reduce max cut depth on the DC390 circular saw from 2-1/8" to 1-7/8" for carbide-tipped blade. Bevel cuts above 22 degrees are unaffected as the battery rocks up out of the way - so it can still 45 dimensional 2" lumber.3) As others have stated, the first time clicking this adapter into a tool it is VERY stiff, and nearly impossible to remove - you need to start to disengage one side, and hold that side partially open while disengaging the other side... It gets dramatically easier after a few install / removal cycles.

This adapter has been an absolute lifesaver. I have a full collection of older DeWalt 18V tools, and I figured I would eventually have to toss them or sell them for almost nothing. Someone mentioned this adapter, and I decided to give it a shot.Now I can use all my 20V batteries in my old tools, and they actually run stronger than they did before. The added weight is minimal and the Battery life is far better than the tools original batteries. Everything fits securely, performance is great, and it’s given a second life to tools I’ve had for years.If you have older DeWalt gear, this adapter is a must. Totally worth it.

I've tried this on all my old dewalt stalk type battery tools. All tools work again with this adaptor now. The price is a bit excessive but if these tools keep working with this adaptor then it's well worth it.The adaptor came in proper plastic retail packaging with instructions so I have no doubt this is a genuine dewalt product

Despite a number of negative reviews, I found the adapter easy to insert and remove. It is easier if you take the battery out of the adapter before either inserting or removing the adapter from the tool.I have tested the adapter on a number of my old 18V tools and it works perfectly.Don't forget to remove the battery from the adapter when it is not in use (either on or off a tool) as the adapter contains electronic circuitry which will eventually drain the battery. This is easily achieved if you remove the battery from the adapter before removing from the tool.

Fonctionne très bien m'a permis de remettre en circulation une scie sauteuse et une scie sabre marque Würth (oui il y a 20 ans c'était du dewalt déguisé en Würth).fonctionne également avec des anciennes machines dewalt.seul bémol, non compatible avec les nouvelles batteries Powerstack dewalt, les 2 ergots de chaque côté de l'adaptateur empêche l'engagement de ce type de batterie.après j'ai également acheté une copie chinoise à 20 euros, qui à l'air de fonctionner aussi, mais en tant qu'artisan, j'ai préféré prendre la marque Dewalt (certes 6 fois plus cher), en espérant avoir une garantie de qualité, j'espère que je ne me suis pas trompé, l'avenir me le dira.si ça peut aider certaines personne c'est compatible avec les anciennes machine qui ont les batteries réf.DW9095, DE9095 et certainement d'autres références que je ne connais pas.Merci d'avoir pris le temps de me lire.Gaël
