Ruthless [Blu-ray]

A fascinating noir study of ambition, mistrust, greed and double dealing. SIDNEY GREENSTREET is in TOP FORM as a hulking SOuthern financial wizard whose fundamental rudeness and savagery comes out in the climatic brawl on the boat pier. Watch this movie closely so you won't miss the twisting. and turning of the labyrinthine plot. Zachary Scott is detestable as the young man on the make.

Not quite up to "Mask of Dimitrios," but quite good. Another excellent performance of a sleazy rat by Zachery Scott, with Sydney Greenstreet his rival.

Interesting movie. Kept falling asleep on it so I need to see it again. Anything with Louis Hayward in it is worthwhile for me............

great stuff....and great B&W cinematography and art direction...i;ll be watching this one again...worth having in the movie library! (mine is pretty big..i'm a cinematographer so i like having this stuff at my fingertips.

good plot, interesting characters. The ending is unbelievably unrealistic but still a good movie.

Good acting, plot, old-timey like I love!

I found Ruthless captivating from beginning to end. It's a fine melodrama with more than a nod to Citizen Kane (referred to by critics as, the poor man's Citizen Kane). The print is not great but I got so caught up in the film, it was still well worth the money. This review is for the UK dvd release.

The actors pulling out all the stops make this an intriguing one to watch. I especially liked Louis Hayward's slightly understated performance, which contrasted nicely with the others.

This is such an underrated, bleak cinematic observation of corporate America that it is surprising it was released when it was, in the glory days of post-war victory.Great release by Olive Films!

This film can't compete with "Citizen Kane," perhaps but it's still a successful rendering of a ruthless and deceitful tycoon.
