this is not a homage to spaghetti westerns as the description says. its a psychological thriller about the effects on being in a bloody war can have on a man with a nice twist. i enjoyed it and its worth a watch.i would give it 3.5 stars cause the score is very generic and doesnt really fit the movie and is a bit annoying.

FOR THE PRODUCTION, DIRECTING AND THE ACTING, 6 STARS. Not so much for the story.very dark for a western.

The film tells of a civil-war veteran 'Jackson' (Scott Eastwood) who is haunted by his past deeds.When his home is attacked, set on fire, his wife 'Alexsandra' (Camilla Belle) kidnapped by Mexican-Bandits, 'Jackson' has one course of action to take - pursue, and rescue his young wife.On the trail he will meet those that would obstruct his quest, and being told that his wife does notappear distressed in the company of her abductors doesn't help, it makes no sense to him.One face that keeps turning up on the journey 'Ezra' (Walton Coggins) a killer, but, who is this person,why, when given the opportunity does he not kill 'Jackson' ?'Jackson' will continue his pursuit that will lead to an ultimate shoot-out, but, will he get the outcomehe seeks ?Also among the cast 'Danny Glover' who plays a fellow war-veteran 'Benjamin' who 'Jackson' seeks helpfrom during the quest.'Jackson's' worst enemy is indeed himself, the war has made killing a part of his life he has been unableto let go.The film in truth is a little slow, though there are several action-sequences along the way, the film doeshave a twist in the tail.Though watching 'Scott' does at times give glimpses of his father 'Clint Eastwood' ...he does not have thescreen presence 'Clint' has. I enjoyed this movie. Had a believable story. Nice twist. Great Ending.For the negative reviews about Scott Eastwood not being his dad? No matter what the guy does he will never be out of that shadow. Watch and Decide for yourself. And If you enjoy this film Give Old Henry a watch.

Scott Eastwood is pretty good in this psychological rollercoaster of a western-action-drama. It's pretty good and will hold your attention, both with the great camera work and sound, and the acting. Worth a watch.

From the discreption you think you have it figured out. However, as you follow along on his journey you pick out strange actions and finally at the end you finally see what is really happening and has happened. I'd have liked to know more of the story though, it seemed to leave a lot of questions. I did think Eastwood did a great job.

The only homage to spaghetti westerns in this movie was the when the movie title flashed up on screen at the end....other than that, the movie starts off pretty straight forward as the description states, but then takes a sharp left turn about halfway through and becomes a totally different movie with a completely different main character. The problem is the transition. The were no subtle hints or progression towards the transition. It was like you were asleep and all of a sudden woken up by someone pouring a bucket of ice water on you. You have no idea what just happened. If that was intentionally done, it didn't work well.

Not what I was expecting from a western, but not a bad movie all in all.

If you're a fan of Clint Eastwood and the "Man with no name" trilogy, you are in for a big disappointment with this movie. The old saying that the apple does not fall far from the tree does not apply here. In fact, the apple in this case, after falling from the Eastwood family tree bounced and rolled all the way down the hill to rest in the no-talent gully of wanna be like my dad actors. I should have noticed a possible red flag when the same name appeared in the credits for the scriptwriter, director, and co-producer. Despite some well known names and familiar faces involved in the film, this movie is terrible. Even seasoned, talented actors can not do much with a poorly written script. Don't waste your money like I did on this dvd. Instead, watch " Unforgiven" with Daddy Eastwood.

The movie arrived quickly. Fast shipping.I have about 100 DVD western movies and this was on a recommended list.The movie was slow, confusing, and had a terrible ending. It was utterly awful.Next time we have a yard sale it goes on the table for $1.

I got this like everyone else because of the Eastwood connection. I knew it had mixed reviews. But thought, hey, Goggins is a cool actor as well, and I just dig westerns. Well, I was surprised. Scott is no Clint, but he was pretty good. Plus, there is a neat little twist. My whole family is into Clint westerns, and we all liked this.

First off, movie looks great on Bluray, but unfortunately it makes no sense towards the end.. Unless your on drugs it will never make sense.. This one I'll toss in the daily trash. Waisted money. I'll read reviews more closely from now on. So many westerns on Bluray are subpar nowadays.
