Hi Bob, thank you for the inquiry. Our grilles can be installed in doors of any thickness as long as there are screws long enough. Screws that come in the box are just under 40 mm long (roughly 1 1/2 inch). I hope  this answers your question. Regards, Engera Team.

Will this work on a pocket door with out causing opening and closing issues?

It depends on how the doors close/open. if they slide then it may not work if the gap between the door and the inside is too small as the grille is not completely flushed with the door surface.. I want to put these at the top of 2 bedroom doors. How would I install them and what could I put between them to block sound and keep air flow?

Hi and thanks for your inquiry. Always happy to assist,  If this is for the natural ventilation (no mechanical - fan forced -exhaust system etc) then we are afraid that anything you will place to stop the noise transfer will affect th airflow, most likely making the whole process pointelss. if there is a mech system involved, then you can try to cut a piece of foam based air filter, similar to what is used in the vacuum cleaners to stop the noise whilst still making it all breathable. Note that depending on your fan capacity (static pressure) this may work satisfactory or less, depending on how tick is the acoustic layer and the relative fan spare capacity.  No straight answer here, sorry for that.  Acoustically the best solution would be to connect the bedroom with the corridor via in ceiling piece of duct and two ceiling mounted grilles. in terms of the installation, you make a cutout in the door and tight the two pieces together using screws which come with the grilles. hope this gives you some direction!
