It’s very flexible and a good strong fabric, not sure what you mean about straightening your back whilst doing stomach exercises so hope this helps.

Can you shorten the strap for a much much shorter person of 4ft 8

Yes there are two buckles at one end so you can thread the strap through them to shorten it or if you really needed to you can just cut it.
