Asus Mini Bluetooth Dongle (USB-BT211)

I recently got an ASUS laptop at an exceptional price because it was a floor model. Among the features I liked were the inclusion of a camera and Skype. I tried a few options with equipment I had and a wired adapter. None were quite satisfactory, especially as portable alternatives to the built-in mike and speakers.The laptop doesn't have bluetooth included, but I have several very good BT headsets for my phone. The ASUS USB-BT211 seemed to have more consistently good reviews than the other bluetooth USB stubs. And I figured ASUS would likely make sure their accessories worked with their hardware. Plus, even with shipping, at under $16, it was a hopefully better choice than buying another headset just for the laptop.The dongle arrived this morning. As with several other reviewers, the included driver disk was useless. But the most recent beta version, downloaded from the ASUS support website, works like a champ. One note: the version I downloaded was in a zip archive. So, you'll need a way to extract the installer from the archive in order to run it. Once you do, installation is quick and simple. It actually took me longer to get to the Win8 pairing process for my headsets than it did to install the driver. The driver I chose says it's for Win7, but it works well in Win8.I've now tried both headsets -- one on Skype, the other in a Google+ hangout. They work great. There's a little tinniness to my voice and a little echo. I suspect I need to figure out the Win8 audio stuff to eliminate what I think might be a little bit of feedback.Overall, almost everything is a Pro. Driver installation is a minor Con. I'd recommend this bluetooth USB stub to anyone, if they're interested in connecting a headset. I haven't tried anything else to verify that anything beyond headsets or speakers would work well.

As an IT professional, I am pretty good at making computer things work. I did manage to finally get this thing to sort of work, after about an hour of fussing with it. I say sort of work because when I did finally get sound to come out of my BT headset, it was choppy at best, and about 2 seconds behind the people talking at best! I thought it was because I also had a BT mouse and keyboard so I removed those from the system, but nope, wasn't the problem. Tried it on another computer, same thing. Did manage to get it to work for about 3 minutes right and then it started the lag again. Stop the video and the audio would continue for about 2 seconds, start the video and the people talk for about 2 seconds before you actually hear what they say. Replaced this junk with a Motorola D200 Bluetooth Stereo USB PC Adaptor SJ0399A here on Amazon. It arrived, plugged it into a Windows 7, 64Bit system and within seconds it installed itself and worked flawlessly. I added back my mouse and keyboard and the headphones work perfect. Sound and audio are in sync and no choppy audio. If I had not thrown the packaging away I would send the Asus junk back. Since I did, I'll just throw this junk away so maybe it can reunite with it's packing at the landfill. Save yourself some time and don't buy this Asus garbage!!!!!!

After several frustrating hours of tinkering, I finally have my ASUS USB-BT211 working well with my new A55A ASUS computer running WINDOWS 8. I consider this a victory! I have paired the computer with the JAMBOX by JAWBONE bluetooth speaker, and it is working great.The first problem that I ran into is that the mini cd installation disk for the drivers would not auto load and run. It just sat there and did nothing. After failing several times, I went to the ASUS support downloads website, entered the model number A55A, which yielded two software downloads for Bluetooth. One was an Intel driver for transitioning from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (makes sense) The other download was an ASUS ATHEROS bluetooth driver(assumed to be for Windows 8, but not marked), with an October date. I tried both of these, several times, rebooting several times. They did not work.Finally, I decided to go back to the ASUS SUPPORT DOWNLOADS website, and enter the model number USB-BT211 into search, which produced a hit. That yielded the WINDOWS 7 download version, which is what was supposed to be on the installation mini cd that did not work.It worked! It paired with the Jambox the first time.I am now listening to music from iTunes over a good Bluetooth connection with JAMBOX SPEAKER, and it sounds great.I am penalizing the rating by 1 star for the number of hurdles I had to jump before getting it to work with WINDOWS 8.But, it DOES WORK with WINDOWS 8, and works well.Go to [...]

Ayant un portable ASUS K75VM dont la version est dépourvu de chip bluetooth :-( :-( j'ai donc cherché une mini clé (pour l'encombrement) bluetooth de bonne qualité. Ayant un ASUS j'ai choisi celle-ci de la marque.Aucun problème sous Windows 7 pour la reconnaissance et l'installation des drivers afférant. Tout c'est passé sans accroc et via le net (via Windows Update) comme à l'habitude.Ayant un hub USB 7 port D-Link DUB-H7, j'ai même "bouter" hors des 4 ports de mon portables cette clé.Ce hub étant correctement alimenté (j'ai mis la clé sur un des 2 ports alimentés par précaution), là aussi dans ce cas de figure je ne rencontre aucun soucis.J'utilise cette mini clé bluetooth principalement pour streamer mes flux audio vers mon système hi-fi (via un Logitech Wireless Music Adapter bluetooth) ou via mes enceintes portables bluetooth. Pas de soucis de connexion / reconnexion ni de qualité / stabilité du signal audio.Tout fonctionne comme prévu et comme il se doit et ce facilement.Je n'ai pas encore la portée car je n'est pas réellement besoin pour le moment.Bon produit et de qualité de la part d'ASUS et à un très bon prix.

Perfecto funcionamiento, muy fácil instalación y sincronización, apenas sobresale del puerto usb. Yo lo utilizo para escuchar música en un altavoz sin cables y conecta a la primera y el sonido es correcto.

I purchased this dongle only to connect my smartphone to my computer to eliminate yet another cable.It took a long time to install the CD, much too long, possibly a few hours, I lost track of time and my patience.I had just given up and was about to take out the dongle to send back, and suddenly it was there and working.I cannot understand why it is always so much trouble to get things working on computers.I am not a computer genius in any way, but I remember my first computer with Windows 95 was so much easier to work than my latest with Windows 7.I wish the big computer firms would employ some people with the intelligence to make computers easy to use. I look forward to computers getting AI, maybe they will like us enough to help us.Anyway, as I was saying I only use this dongle to connect my smartphone to my computer and it does it perfectly every time. I have no idea how to stream music or video, not even sure what that is, but everybody talks about it.I give it five stars because it does what I purchased it for, but if you want it for other stuff I suggest you read a review from an expert.

Remember those far off dongle days. A simple must for wifi connection at the time. They did the job at the time
