what kind of batteries does it use?

They use the small button cell LR-44 batteries but those are replaced by the energizer 357 button cell batteries. Energize sells them in 3 packs which is convenient as the ball takes 3. The batteries that it comes with seem to wear out quickly but after replacing with the energizer batteries it is much brighter and lasts much longer!
