Works perfect on Windows 10 64 bit-Plug and Play
I liked that Windows 10 recognized it instantly and loaded drivers for it, the disc was not necessary. This adapter is mechanically exactly the same as the COM connector that is found on the XP and older computers. I plugged my radio programming cable into it and the computer found it in 2 seconds. Communication to and from the radio was faultless. I don't know why other reviewers are complaining about the female threaded studs, perhaps they don't know what a proper COM jack is supposed to look like? I did notice some other devices similar to this one that have the correct male pins but have the hold down bolts of a female plug instead of the nuts found on a jack, but those by definition are not standard COM jacks, but are instead a mechanical corruption of the original concept. I find nothing to dislike with this device other than perhaps it could use a bit longer wire.

Great little tool
A very useful device. Incredibly tolerant of everything I have subjected it to. Worked flawlessly with the drivers included (on a 7cm CDROM) on Windows XP and XP Pro. Ubuntu recognized it with native drivers. Works with arbitrary baud rates correctly under Windows but Linux takes a bit more work. On Ubuntu it does work correctly with standard 16550 UART speeds right out of the box.Neatly assembled and sturdy for its size. Good quality receptacles on both ends (USB and DB9).Recommended for the price.

RS232 has lost favor but....
RS232 isn't included as a port in laptops or PCs anymore and some adapters don't work well. This works well but didn't solve my problem because it does not work when there is serial port already installed. There probably is an interrupt conflict and may be a solution that I've yet to find.

If you need to add RS-232
I have two of these. I plug them in and they just work. I have a computer hooked up to my firewall's console port just in case I need to communicate with it in that manner. The other one I keep in my tool bag in case there is other network equipment I need to hook up to. Preliminary build of some networking equipment this would be invaluable for. There are still times you need a COM port. It's nice to be able to simply add it to a more modern computer. it has onboard lights so you can see activity. Really a nice device and never had problems with it.

Just what I needed.
I wanted to sync a Palm IIIxe with a state of the art laptop running Windows 10 Pro. This worked like a charm.

The mini CD was a problem
I needed the USB to serial for both a Windows and MAC, fortunately it worked on both systems without a problem, however, if I had needed to install any software on my Macbook I would have had a problem. The mini CD with the software cannot be loaded in via a Slot CD reader.Consider sending a full size CD in future that will work with all readers.

HAPPY DAY!
Half the price of going through steno equipment providers!! I still use an old laptop with Windows 7 which I will never give up for my particular business and it was no problem at all connecting with the drivers.

Useful for legacy devices
I bought this to configure older UPS NIC cards that need a 9 pin connection which my laptop does not have. With this I can plug in the adapter to my USB port and get my work done.
