Microscope Starter Kit - 900x 300x 75x - Optics - Built in Light

This is a great little starter item for your budding scientist. My daughter is 9 and has already figured out how to use it. The good thing about a product like this is that it can be stored in the packaging, which is styrofoam, until needed.

On the box was no name of the company who made it, no country. Looked like they made somewhere in the basement :(Instructions for microscope were very simple and sometimes incomprehensible. Microscope was for sister kids. She said it`s works OK. As for me it`s looks like it`s came from the dollar store or other discount store.

I ordered this for my niece who is 9 and who really loves science. I received it today and decided to test it out before giving it to her for Christmas this year. First of all the picture of the gray microscope is not what I received, the second picture of the red all plastic microscope is similar to what I got (the only piece of metal on this is the one screw holding the base to the arm and the coils in the battery tray, every thing else is plastic...cheap plastic). I didn't expect great quality being a $15 purchase, but this isn't worth $15 in my opinion. The description states that this is a 100/300/600x zoom and "top quality optics", what I received is a 75/300/900x that is very poor optics. This microscope...scratch that, This toy microscope is flimsy and just simply touching it shakes the eye piece and makes it hard to see anything. At 75x you can focus reasonably well, at 300x you can get a slightly blurry focus and at 900x you can't focus worth anything. This toy only has a coarse focusing knob which turns unevenly and in places doesn't turn well, I imagine a kid will have a hard time turning it. I'd say that this is aimed at 5 year old kids except that it contains chemicals that are hazardous, I really can't see anyone that I would recommend this to.

This is a very good first time microscope my son's is 8 and he has really had a ton of enjoyment with this microscope. Since it's a fair price and it's a beginner microscope made it nice so because my husband and I could see if the interest is truly there with our son or if this is just a fad. It's a great beginner microscope to see if your child wants to stick with that interest or go onto something different.

This is gonna be a gift and she is gonna love it. It is a good beginners micro

Was very disappointed in this item! The built in light did NOT work even though it came with 2 replacement bulbs. We tried all of them. My grandson however, did not want to give it up for me to send it back! He will just use it w/o the light. I will get him another/better one for his bday!
