What size (diameter) is the drill bit?

The drill bit included in the Kreg Jig 320 is 3/8".

Do the screws to use to make pocket holes need to be a certain type? (I'm new but want to try). Does a jig use only a certain type of screw?

Yes the screws are Silver Zinc-Plated Round Washer Interior Pocket Hole Screws. If you by the Kreg 320 kit they come in the kit; if not they are available at most hardware outlets. Beware that the length of the screw is determined by the thickness of wood you are using. I used 1-1/4 inch pocket screws which came with the Kreg 320 kit for 3/4" thick oak. It was my first experience with pocket hole joints and I'm impressed; the joints are strong and tight. The only thing necessary are good square cuts on the wood used.

What is the difference between the 320 and the R3?

Both the Kreg 320 and Kreg R3 will make the same 3/8" pocket-holes. The Kreg 320 is the newest version of our jigs and will an updated clamp pad and easy set drill bit.

hello . can i use this jig with metric (mm) wood ιn thikness? usually i work with 18mm and 25mm.

18mm plywood corresponds to a nominal 3/4 inch plywood, which is just a tiny bit thinner than 3/4 inch. This kit comes with a thickness guage, which will help to ensure that you set the stop for correct pocket hole depth. Same for 25mm, corresponding to1 inch thickness.

The KREG is not metric and the screws are special, not standard, with square opening for special tool. Absolutely unuseful and very expensive

Brilliant!

Originally I bought the aluminium blue cheap pocket jig on Amazon for about £10. Huge mistake! Absolute rubbish. I then decided I’d spend the extra and buy the kreg kphj320, and I’m glad I did. I’ve used it a few times and it’s fantastic. The internal metal collars are long, which means the drill piece goes in nice and straight and does not damage any of the jigs plastic, unlike the cheap blue aluminium one I bought which started scuffing the jig from the first use due to very short internal collars and lots of play/wiggle. My advice would be to pay the extra and buy the kreg as it has a depth guides so that your pockets are exactly where they’re supposed to be and it lets you know what size screws to use. I enjoy using this pocket jig and I can see it lasting a vey very long time due to its fantastic build quality.

Great for beginner

Well designed, easy to use pocket jig for beginner. I have just make 8 pocket holes with the tool. Take some time to read the manual and follow the instructions, and will be fine
