Owned a year; discarded 6 batteries stated to be defective; now 6 more defective - both duracell & energizer aas - has to be a defect in charger?

This type of charger charges too fast. Your batteries won't last long. I have AA NiCad batteries that are over 10 years old using a slow 200mA charger.

Is this charger suppose to make crackling noise like the batteries are going to explode?

I have had good results from this product.. I use it to recharge batteries for walkie talkies at a school and it can even recharge duracell batteries. They hold their charge. The cheapest price I found was Amazon.
