In this newly revised 10th anniversary edition, Yvon Chouinard--legendary climber, businessman, environmentalist, and founder of Patagonia, Inc.--shares the persistence and courage that have gone into being head of one of the most respected and environmentally responsible companies on earth. From his youth as the son of a French Canadian handyman to the thrilling, ambitious climbing expeditions that inspired his innovative designs for the sport's equipment, Let My People Go Surfing is the story of a man who brought doing good and having grand adventures into the heart of his business life-a book that will deeply affect entrepreneurs and outdoor enthusiasts alike. This is the story of an attempt to do more than change a single corporation--it is an attempt to challenge the culture of consumption that is at the heart of the global ecological crisis.--From the Foreword by Naomi Klein, bestselling author of This Changes Everything

Must read business book
Absolutely loved this - the balance of commercial success with the empathy for people and planet was a pleasure to discover. Not just a business book, as intertwined with the authors love of the outdoors. Left me considering seriously what is truly sustainable growth, and how organisations can truly balance results across a spectrum of financial, ethical and human KPIs.

Absolute Kaufempfehlung!

Engaging and thought provoking
Initially, it took me a while to get into it.... or rather Yvon Chouinard started out slow, and in a kind of hokey way, by telling his 'story'..... but then when it finally got into the history of the clothing company Patagonia, and the changes they made to get more and more sustainable and involved in environmental causes I was riveted. (and his 'hokey' personal story tied in well with his business philosophy.. in order to know where you are going you must know where you came from)In the early 1990's they asked themselves some tough questions about how they do business and why. I found it was very insightful, and you can tell this was done slowly with incremental change, and gradual results. I run a small business, but I know I make an environmental impact. There is a movement towards change, and I felt a little relieved to read I don't have to do it all at once.Besides the focus on the environment, his focus on less and better function in his business and clothing products was worth the read. I also love the focus on the people who work at Patagonia, and some of the trendsetting child care programs they put in place. As well as their philosophy of allowing their workers to sneak out to catch a wave, or meet their kids at the school bus.For me it was a very engaging and thought provoking book, and I think it had some of the answers I was looking for.
