Soft fluffy down coat - no waistline
I am 5'4"/105# and in search of my "perfect" down coat. My criteria: full length, something figure flattering (not bulky) with a waistline, warm and well constructed, pockets (the more, the better), sleek, tailored appearance suitable for casual weekend dress and business / cocktail attire, and a long term good investment (not trendy). I am indifferent about whether there is a hood, or fur or faux fur (as long as it doesn't look cheap). The ability to pack the coat would be an added plus. What attracted me to purchase this coat:-length (the description says "knee length" but it falls mid-calf on me)-flared sleeve with inside wrist cuffs for added insulation-narrow shoulders and fitted silhouette-two external "hand" pockets with zipper closure for security-genuine fox fur-ties to adjust the fit of the hood-description of down fill-Prime 2-day shipping-Amazon price ($549.01 savings)Concerns/Questions about purchase:-double breasted front (Typically not a flattering style on me)-are sleeves too short?-does the coat zip up in the front for added insulation or are there just the snap closures as shown in photo?-are there any internal pockets?-waistline (couldn't tell from photo if this coat has a natural waistline or an empire waistline)-is fur trim detachable?-is hood detachable?I ordered an XS in black and was very excited to receive this coat in two days' time. The coat arrived folded neatly in a clear plastic zipper pouch inside of the Amazon brown box packaging. When I unfolded the coat, it fluffed easily and quickly restored its shape. There were no strange odors. Upon closer inspection, the quilted seams appeared to be well constructed and evenly stitched. The fabric is really smooth and soft, not at all scratchy, and feels and looks to be high quality. The black color is true black and has a nice light sheen to it (but it's not metallic looking). Overall, the coat is very lightweight (not heavy to carry) and tailored to fit (zero bulk). Also, it is highly packable -- you can squish the coat up so that it consumes very little suitcase space and likely good for travel (plus it easily fluffs back to its normal shape as mentioned previously). As much as I wanted to love this coat, it turned out to be unflattering on me largely due to its double breasted front and high empire waistline. It made my torso look shorter than usual and gave me absolutely no waist, which turned out to be deal breakers for me.I did learn upon receiving this coat that there are no internal pockets and just the two external "hand" pockets shown in the photo. Also, the bell sleeves did in fact result in a shorter sleeve length (the sleeve end fell mid-forearm). There is no front zipper closure and you have to rely on the snaps to keep the coat closed and insulated from the cold. There are two rows of 3 snaps at the chest area (total of 6 snaps) that appear as covered buttons in the front where it is double breasted. The buttons are 1.25" in diameter and accentuate the double breasted look. The fur trim is removable and can easily be unbuttoned from the hood, however, the hood itself is not detachable.Sadly, this coat is going back.
