Great yarn for a soft, chunky scarf!
I was looking for thicker yarn to make a chunky winter scarf for my boyfriend. This was perfect. It was easy to work with, super soft, and has been holding up well. My boyfriend loves his scarf!

Great!
This yarn is great! I've made several items with it before. My most recent project was a crochet cardigan. It holds up well and doesn't get pilly.

Bernat Softee Chunky yarn is precisely that!
The media could not be loaded. Nothing says Autumn better than Bernat Softee Chunky yarn in Pumpkin. It made a warm cozy crochet cocoon cardigan to throw on when I walk the dogs at night or for cozy movie nights on the couch. I practically live in this thing. The brown and teal are also Bernat Softee Chunky yarns. By the way, the softness doubles after a cycle in the washer and dryer. No shrinkage and the colors remain rich. Nothing but more softness. It makes a great cardigan blanket for doggies too. I’ll just have to buy more to make another.

Medium chunky
I got the black yarn for kid crafts, not knitting. I wanted a chunky yarn. This was not as thick as I hoped, but it worked. It is about 1/8 inch thick. The yarn is soft.

Cheap feeling, not very soft & stiff
This yarn has a cheap feel to it once knitted. It’s not that soft & it’s very stiff. I bought this to make a baby hat & scarf & I’m embarrassed to give this as a gift. Unfortunately, Christmas is too soon to try another yarn & start again.

It's just ok
Not that soft, but its ok. I give 3 stars because it didn't go very far. I used it with southern soft chunky yarn by premier yarns. And I used this to add stripes. Doing feather stitch, k hook and chain start of 100 small lap blanket. I used this for a strip I was going to do a strip every 10 rows. Well I got only 4 rows of strips and color is almost gone. 2 skins will not complete my project. So just doing 2 stripes on bottom, and 2 at end of my project. I can still make it work. But disappointed I couldn't get more out of it and do what I wanted. So I can't give full stars on this product since it really didn't go very far. You won't get alot of rows out of it so buy a ton if you wanna make something with it. The yarn is sturdy and nice to work with. But if you want soft yarn, go to premier yarns and find their chunky yarn, much better than this. I wont buy it again, but I will still use it for my current project and I bought other colors too, wish I didn't. But its just ok so I can still use what I can with it.

“Chunky” is the name of this line of yarn. It is NOT a chunky yarn though
To explain the title, this line of yarn, from the manufacturer who makes Bernat yarn, is “Softee & Chunky”. It is NOT a chunky yarn. This is a weight 4 yarn. To compare, I’ve attached a phot with this yarn, next to Bernats “Blanket” line, which is a 6 weight. So you can see, it is a pretty big difference.I got a BUNCH of this yarn, massivelydiscounted, in December (enough to make 5 different twin size blankets) so if you see this review multiple times, I apologize. What to buy for knitting: The skeins are loosely rolled, and are only 100yards each, so be prepared to buy enough for your project. I just finished my first twin blanket and it took 19 1/2 skeins (I did do a boarder though, so without that, it would have been 18 skeins). I knitted this one, using 8mm needles.Hit the size of a throw with 12 skeins. And from that, would guess 6 for a crib blanket and 4 for a baby blanket. What to buy if crocheting:Knitting uses less yarn then crocheting, so if I were crocheting with this I would buy a minimum of 5 for a baby blanket, minimum of 8 for crib blanket, 15 for a throw and 25 for a twin size.Softness, it’s okay. Nowhere near as scratchy as red heart, but nowhere near as soft as baby yarn. For an acrylic yarn, it’s fairly middle ground. It held up nicely in the washer on normal cycle in cold, as well as the dryer. Softened up nicely with using both downy in the wash, as well as a dryer sheet in the dryer. Colors didn’t bleed and the photo was taken after I pulled it from the dryer. In all, would I buy again? Well, I got the yarn for all five blankets for between $1.17-$1.26 per skein, so pretty cheap on sale. Would I pay full price for it? No.But if I caught it on sale again, I would.

Not good for blankets
This is more of a pale yellow than an off white. Also, this yarn does not work up well. The blanket I am making is more like a rug, in that it is too thick and not very flexible or soft. If I had it to do over again, I definitely wouldn't use this yarn but I had already bought 12 skeins of it so I'm stuck. I won't use it again unless I decide to start making carpets.
