Douglas Corleone - An author that will not disappoint & will hold your interest!
I have always been a fan of Douglas Corleone. When he told me he was selected to write under Robert Ludlum's Janson's series I immediately began reading these books. The Janson Directive ( a must read for this series) by Ludlum was very good and explains how the team of Paul Janson & Jessica Kincaid came about. Unfortunately Ludlum passed away, however he had requested to let other authors continue his series. I read books 2 & 3 in the Janson series, and even though they were good, I had a difficult time following them at times. Then came The Janson Equation with a different twist. I felt this book was a page turner and easy to follow without having to go back and re-read excerpts. With the focus being on North & South Korea, it was very interesting to gain a better understanding of the current conflicts that we face with Korea. I only hope that Corleone will be asked to write a follow up for the next book. He has a great talent in keeping readers enthused and wanting more. On that note I can't wait for his next Simon Fisk book due out August 18th - Gone Cold. If you haven't read the Fisk series I highly recommend to get caught up. You won't be disappointed!

Not Your Vintage Ludlum, But Close!
In the true Ludlum fashion, this book's plot has more twists and turns than you can count. The action scenes are plentiful and well done, with the good guys emerging unscathed, and the bad guys ending up dead. The invincibility of those wearing white hats gets even further afield when it comes to crossing defended borders. As you are waiting for a problem to surface in crossing, the next paragraph indicates they have gotten through with no difficulty. Also, the constant referrals to the rules of engagement is a little tiresome. All in all, this was a good read, but it could stand some minor revisions.

A decent read, but falls short of what it should have been.
This one is a step up from the third Janson novel, I give him that. But it's still not as good as the first or second, not by a long shot. Most of the novel is entertaining enough, though the author shows he's not a hardworking writer. He doesn't spend much time at all writing Paul and Jessica together. They're not characters that lend easily to scenes being written, nor would character development be easy. But he should have gone for the effort and put more Jessica/Paul time. They're the main characters, we want to see scenes of them together!Overall, most of the book is interesting and the plot flows easily enough. My biggest complaint would be that towards the end, the author goes full "Marvel action movie" on us, or whatever you want to call it. He mimics what a basic action movie would do... he's taking what was a brilliantly written thriller, starting with the Janson Directive, and turning into a B action movie starring the Rock.. Keep in mind--the first Janson novel ended with two men having a heated, well written, character developing confrontation, one about to kill the other, and a single bullet from a sniper. This ended with a scene more inspired by "Avengers" or such. That, is my biggest disappointment in this novel.

nine books purchased at same time
Books received were in excellent condition. All were by Robert Ludlum. I will purchase more books in future. This review should cover other eight book titles as well

A Change in Pace for Jason
The continuing saga of Paul Janson and his partner Jessica Kincad except the theme, setting and cast of characters are different. This book reverts back to the first book, in that, the bad guys are his former employer who is conspiring with other entities within the government. One thing that felt odd was the numerous times that Jessica was referred to as Jessie, which almost seemed too familiar at times. But besides that the book was on par with the previous books in this series.

Good but I am guessing there will be a movie soon!
The 3rd book in the Janson series is still good but I really think a movie is coming soon or perhaps the author is trying to make Janson appear younger. In the first 2, Janson was a POW in Vietnam, to avoid giving the story away in this book he was formerly a POW in a really recent Middle eastern war zone. Other than this, a fast faced and enjoyable read.

New author wrecks the character
I LOVED the books in the Janson series authored by Ludlum and Garrison, but Corleone is cheapening the franchise. His writing style is much more colloquial than the other two, as though it is written by a teen/twenty-something. The author's style assumes that the readers know nothing about anything by continually forcing the main characters to ask "wait, what do you mean by that" when they are talking to supporting characters. It's frustrating because it not only insults the reader, it makes the main characters look really dumb (why wouldn't a spy of 30 years know anything about computers, a topic about which Janson is frequently stumped in this book). Also frustrating were the characters unrealistically short tempers with otherwise friendly characters and the seriously childish phrases that they always utter at each exchange. It was really hard to get through this book.I guess the Janson franchise is finished, unless Garrison comes back.

Great read. Need to follow books in order. Wish I was bullet proof as well. No one shooting near me is ever a rotten shot.

A pity the characters were changed in the way they were presented by the "new" author!
Having read the first three books it was a shame that the tenure and way the characters "spoke" changed with the "new" author. Enjoyable but not as gripping as the other books. Such a shame.
