Q: Have a similar bird feeder about same size, but its rectangular & wire it hangs from loops about 6 - 8 inches up to hanger. Will this work?

The Aspects shield will sit on the top of the feeder tube itself. The slit in the top is about 3 inches long. If your wires are not farther apart than this, it should work. However, I made the mistake of using it on 'squirrel proof' tube feeders. The weight of the plastic shield on top was enough to push the food portals down away from the perches (like it's supposed to do if a squirrel gets on top). I will use mine on other type of small feeders.

Q: What is the diameter of the hole in the center?

The length of the slot in the center is about 3.25 inches. Then the diameter of the small hole in center of slot is about 1” dia. HTH.

Q: Why is it so expensive?

The shipping cost that is built into the price. If you go to UPS to ship it on to a friend it will cost you about $20.
