This compost starter is excellent. My indoor bucket went cold due to changing weather. I applied this as indicated on the bag and immediately, rather overnight it started to heat up and speed the break down. This is a worthy investment. The finished compost will end up with a 4/4/2 blend which is excellent for most plants. The bag does reek when you open which is expected considering it has dried chicken manure as part of the base. Overally for my smaller compost pile, this will last a while. I'm happy with my purchase. I'll be able to use my compost next spring. 🤩 UPDATE September 8th 2026 I got a little overzealous with applying this compost starter. It did what it needed to do but the amount I added to my 5gal bucket caused me to need a far longer time span for my compost to finish and I now have a stickier texture than I would like. I learned that for a 5gal bucket, I only need maybe quarter cup to get it going after gathering all my browns and greens. I still recommend this product as it did what it needed to do. My plants is thriving with the compost made with this product. I know now I don't need to use a ton of it since I don't have a huge outdoor pile.

My favorite. When using this product, I noticed that it definitely generates heat. I use it in layers, layering in wet, dry, green brown.
