Can I used a A/V receiver with this instead of an AMP?

No, this needs an amp. You can buy a cheap car subwoofer amplifier like this one: https://www.amazon.com/BOSS-Audio-R1100M-Monoblock-Subwoofer/dp/B004S4XNEO Since it's 1100W (theoretically), I would wire all of the bass shakers in series, and connect to the amp above.

Can 4 units be placed under a king sized bed, with 2 people in it (600lbs total weight)?

Might need more than 4 units.... they also get hot! Plus you need to mount them to the bed frame not just place it under the mattress

Can I install this into a boombox type speaker or is it too powerful?

This is an old question but I was able to place mine into a small, repurposed, 3" computer subwoofer box. I can place the box onto my couch and it sounds great! Works wonderful with my headphones and gives a fantastic depth of bass which was missing from my headphones alone. I power this unit with a small subwoofer amp.
