Can the manufacturer comment on whether the boxes are completely open on the bottom side or is there a recessed floor or other bracing?

No internal bracing. I have 4" and 6". Very sturdy and versatile but no cross beams.

Are the individual boxes open/hollow on the bottom or do they have a recessed floor?

Open bottom, has top and 4 sides.

Is the box fully enclosed (8 inch specifically) or is one side open (I.e. could I store some weights in it when not in use)?

It is fully enclosed and works great.

This item is sold by and shipped by Amazon. Can Amazon advise if the boxes are shipped already assembled or does the buyer have to assemble them?

Dear Troy, Thank you for choosing our product and contacting us. Regarding your concern, the boxes will be shipped out as separate pieces with detailed assembly instructions. Warmest regards and Best wishes, Yes4All Customer Service Team
