desertcart.com: Animation 1: Learn to Animate Cartoons Step by Step (Cartooning, Book 1): 8601200434040: Preston J. Blair: Office Products Review: Little more advanced than I expected but still love it. - I often feel like they skipped some valuable steps, but it has so many good excercises in it to practice that I don't mind. I would not start with this book if you are just learning to draw. I would likely go with a drawing basics book and then practice character drawing prior to getting this book. If you dont know much about character drawing then you will struggle with this book a bit. However, it goes into how they drew some of the classic cartoons that we all know and love. I don't regret this purchase whatsoever. Its going to help me in many ways. Review: Such a cool book! - Solid five stars. They go over all the basics in a way where you can really understand how to use the skills to build on and create your own work. I got it to learn different angles and methods for illustration. Trying to illustrate a children's book.

Good for reference
Really nice for reference or interest in animation. You pay for what you buy. Contains many pictures and short introduction for animation. If you're looking for a super detailed book then this is not for you but still a great book.

Good basic introduction to animation
Animation 1: Learn to Animate Cartoons Step by Step lives up to its title. It's a good introduction to the concepts and techniques in animation "old school" style. Don't look for techniques in CGI like Maya and Blender or for 2D animation using Photoshop or Toonz or Anime Studio or ToonBoom Animate. This is "nuts and bolts" take out the pencil and paper and draw. Liked the book - relatively inexpensive and the lessons were good and straightforward.

A very simple book but very valuable
First this book is very thin maybe 30 pages but at the same time very large 20ish inches tall 15ish inches wide so it's awkward on the bookshelf. But the content of the pages is very valuable. It shows the keys of Animation and as the title implies it is step by step. I do feel like the content is a little light on the how to of the steps but is great at showing those steps. It is as though the book depends that the user have a base of knowledge to build upon.

Good Book
When I first got this, I thought I got the wrong book because that's not the cover page image. Anyway, this isn't a thick book (but its really big) and I love the stuff inside. It has good examples and it even has a mouth chart for how to draw each sound you make. Also the stuff inside is... "old style?" animation cartoons kinda like Pluto and Dumbo but it's still really good.

(I am Fifty Three now) I am pleased with the new edition
I have owned a copy of this book since I was about six years of age. (I am Fifty Three now) I am pleased with the new edition, the paper quality alone made this worth the purchase. (My old copy had come up missing after all these years. Mr. Blair has given me a great foundation and starting point for all I have drawn over the years. I still consult this from time to time even today. A must have for a young artist, or anyone looking to start cartooning or any other form of art. The basics are all here!

I am glad I purchased this book
I did not pay attention to what size the book actually was. It is what I expected, and what I wanted in regards to drawing and drawing practice. I would also get this as a hardcover book for durability (if that is available). I am happy I purchased it and excited for completing all the drawing exercises and putting them into practice! I would recommend this book.
