Dowco Rally Pack Standard Tank Bag with Magnet Mount provides soft storage for most cruiser-style motorcycles. Made from 600 Denier, fade-resistant fabric. Features sewn-in magnets with a protective neoprene pad. Also features sewn-in reflective markings with UV-resistant film for map pockets. The method you choose to store your ride and gear is a critical decision. Storing it outdoor, indoor or both, factors like waterproof and water resistant options must be considered; you also need to think about fade resistance and security factors.

so far
I just got this today so I'll update my review in a month or so.Many reviewers noted that the safety strap or the zippers are on the wrong side. I remedied this by cutting the straps off, used a sewing awl and glue to attach the strap to the side the zipper opens on and then placing the bag on the tank so that the zipper is facing the front of the bike. Some reviewers complained that it lacks straps to easily carry. This is true, but it's a really cheap bag and there are ways to fix that too. I'm going to put a few keychain rings on the front and rear of the bag and use a nylon sling for when I want to take it with me. If you do change the orientation of the safety strap be aware that it may allow water to creep in. I have a cover to go over the bag to avoid waterlogged electronics and you probably should too. It'd have been a much better product if there was a separate zipper for the map pocket for people who use gps/tablet/phone for navigation. The map pocket is big, about twice the size of my 7" tablet. There's definitely a glare in direct sunlight but for night trips and cloudy days it should be fine. There's a pocket beneath the map pocket to store documents and there's another small pocket with a separate zipper that's about 6"x4", big enough for most wallets and smaller smartphones.I feel 5 magnets, one on each lobe and another in the middle. When I took it for a ride it stayed on at 75mph(no windshield or fairings). The material seems tough but I'll update this review at a later date if it turns out to be junk.Another problem people have noted is that there isn't any support to hold the bag's shape. Someone mentioned using cardboard to fix the problem. I'm riveting together 3mm vinyl sheets cut to match the height each side and using a plastic compartment separator from a toolbox to give me four separate compartments to store different items. Again, this is a cheap bag, so I wasn't really expecting anything fancy. The upside is that you can customize compartments to fit your needs.Overall the size of the bag and map pocket, the strong magnets and the apparently quality construction for the low price outweighs the negatives that I've noted above, making this product a slightly-better-than-mediocre tank bag. I give a tentative 3-stars.

Pretty good bag. Great for the price.
I've had this bag for a few months and have had it on my bike for maybe 2000 or so miles, so I may have to update this as I use it more. This is a very basic bag. It has one large main compartment, a map compartment, and a small outside zipper compartment perfect for change for a toll booth. The magnets on this bag are very strong. I was quite surprised at just how solidly it holds the tank bag in place, despite me regularly overloading way past its recommended weight. There is also a strap that goes around your triple tree (or whatever you find in front of your tank to attach it to). I use this strap for peace of mind, but it's really not necessary at all.Just something to keep in mind though, there are magnets under the center of the bag, not just on the 'feet,' so keep that in mind if you store credit cards or electronics that could be affected by magnets. I keep my wallet in the tank bag, but I make sure it sits on top of all the clutter that is in the bag, and thus doesn't come in contact with the magnets... So it's really been a non-issue for me. However, it's something worth mentioning. The only reason I gave this four stars, not five, is because the fabric started to fray on the inside around the zipper. This caused the zipper to occasionally hang up on the threads. I took a lighter to these threads and that completely solved the problem. However, the edges really shouldn't have left the factory like that. I don't anticipate this being a problem in the future. It's really not a big deal, but it keeps me from giving the bag a perfect five star score. There are plenty of tank bags out there that are of higher quality and have more features. However, for the money, this is right at the top in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this to someone on a budget and would buy it again myself.

Really Good Product
Under $40 and free shipping might make you suspect this is cheap quality, but nothing could be further from the truth.I have used the bag a lot on longer trips, and don't even use the extra strap to attach around the steering column, it doesn't move! And I mean fully loaded (I'll get back to that) at 70mph, round corners in all weathers on my FJR 1300, it's really great. When I arrive, a gentle but firm tug under the magnets and voila, it's off, and then stores completely loaded into one of my hard luggage bags. With a large map pocket on top (accessed from inside), for rallies, and unfamiliar terrain, a smaller front zip compartment for cell phone, sunglasses etc, and then the main zip compartment, it's really great, looks good, and fits really well. I haven't tested it in really heavy rain, but it has stood up so far to a few showers, maps and contents dry inside.I've been using mine mainly over the summer, so I put inside the bag:My Mesh Armored Jacket's detachable liner for cool eveningsFroggs Waterproof setSpare mapsBottle of drinkHelmet Lock & CableSnacks, spare gloves, glasses caseWith these contents it's padded out nicely, but it's still easy to see over, and once you line it up on the tank and fold out the sides, there's a nice "thullunk" as the magnets latch on and it's not going to budge. This also means it's really easy to lift off for gas stops, without having to fiddle with straps and buckles. The only thing it doesn't have is a special window or housing for a GPS, no biggy for me as I don't use one, and if I did I could place it in the map pocket and thread the wire through the zip. Those who use GPS a lot might want to look at other bags.A real winner, and a great price - 5 stars

Great for GPS units
I picked this up because I thought it would hold our GPS unit securely while still being able to see and use the GPS unit on the road. It actually worked beautifully. It can have a lot of glair so it is sometimes hard to see but with the GPS unit's volume turned all the way I can hear the GPS unit while in town a slow speeds. It's also nice to hold those quick-access items like water, snacks, Leatherman, and small jacket liners. This item is well made. The bottom is a soft almost rubber material that will not scratch your paint. There are plenty of really strong magnets that will keep this on through riding. It takes a bit of effort to remove the bag so I've no fear of it falling off. One note with the magnets is the base under the compartment DOES have magnets so keep those magnet-sensitive items out of this. (USB drives, Debit/credit cards and such) zippers are sturdy.I would recommend this for GPS users, map users, or anyone just looking for a little extra space. If you stash water in this and it's sunny outside it'll get very hot :)I have not tested this in the rain.
