I can not afford a dermatologist and had heard amazing things about acid peels so after searching through amazon I settled on this one. Received the package is top condition no issues there, but as I read the instructions I realized this is something usually done by professionals. You need a special applicator which I didn’t know and doesn’t come in the package, I also wish I had bought their peel neutralizer specifically for this. If your doing your forehead you probably need some special goggles to keep your eyes safe because the water can drip down as you apply it! Some landed on my lip and I had to immediately neutralize it with cold water because it burned. As the instructions say, this will affect different people and skin types differently. Background info: I’m a 23 year old Latina not super tan but not super light skinned either with semi-sensitive skin, a lot ALOT of acne and acne scars. I read the instructions very carefully and did a test patch as it said while also diluting it in half. After 48 hours with no burns or side effects I decided to do my whole face with only 1/4 dilution. I originally bought this for my acne scars but as mentioned earlier I still have acne, I recommend you get rid of your acne first before using this product because it burns if you still have acne. It sneaks up on you, at first it’s a light tingle, and then it’s almost like a burning sensation, I was very nervous and kept a close eye on my face for redness, after a couple of minutes I neutralized it with cold water as the instructions suggested. I had to do that a few times until I felt comfortable, BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR EYES! Afterwards I still felt a light tingling but nothing worrisome. I purchased this Glycolic 40% Acid Peel because I have some sun damage on my cheeks that retinol was barely touching. First let me say that I have very fair, sensitive skin, as well as rosacea. I was super excited but a bit nervous to try it when it arrived today.I read the directions which are pretty detailed. I did not know it recommended using an alpha hydroxy product for a few days prior to trying it. I had not purchased one but I really wanted to try the product so I just thought I would go easy for the first time.Also... I had washed my face that morning and exfoliated not knowing my package would be delivered on a Sunday. The instructions say not to use the product within 24-48 hours of exfoliating. I didn’t go crazy with the exfoliation so I disregarded this warning as well. I know, I’m a rebel and a fool perhaps.My skin is sensitive but I was feeling frisky. I was determined to be careful with how long I used the product for. The instructions say to use it for 30 sec to 2 mins for the first time and to test it out on a small area first. I used an area of my upper chest. No bad reaction. I had read one user went for the full 2 min and was burned. So I decided on 30 seconds since I had disregarded the alpha hydroxy use and exfoliation recommendations.I applied 3-4 drops of this clear liquid onto a cotton round... and gently wiped it over my face. I started with my cheeks as that’s my problem area but made my way to the forehead, chin, and nose... I had applied lip balm prior for some lip protection and was careful around my eyes. In fact I steered clear of both sensitive areas completely. But I wiped my cheeks a couple times.I felt tingling right away. It wasn’t painful and it wasn’t a burning tingling. It wasnt even unpleasant. I had set my timer for 30 seconds when I started and I think by the time I ended I was just after my timer. I’m pretty sure my forehead didn’t get the full 30 seconds but it didn’t need it like my cheeks. I rinsed copiously with cool water. When I thought I was good to go, I rinsed even more with cool water to neutralize the acid. I didn’t get a neutralizing solution as water will bring any acid to ph7 fairly easily. The cool water felt good. The tingling stopped as I rinsed my face.My skin felt like I should not drag a towel across it, so I dabbed at it with a towel and felt my face. Super smooth. Like better than when you exfoliate. I moisturized right away with a fairly rich moisturizer. I waited about a 30-45 mins and my face had soaked that up ... I reapplied more moisturizer. That was lunchtime and now it’s bedtime and I used a creamy cleanser to wash gently and applied a good night cream. My face feels mostly fine. It feels like a very slight sunburn, but it’s really hardly noticeable. I can tell I did something to my face but it’s very subtle in how it feels. When I use it next I’m going to try for a minute! Use Vaseline or something on your lips if you’re needing to get closer than naso-labial fold line.I did not buy a neutralizer, I made one of 1 and 1/2 cups water and two tablespoons baking soda. Applied after copious rinsing, this gave me peace of mind that everything was removed, though I’m not sure it actually did anything! I’m a newbie to this so I was a little paranoid. If you choose to do this, be sure your baking soda is fresh - if it bubbles when combined with vinegar, you’re good to go.Overall, this product has done for my skin in 6 weeks (3 applications) what 2 years of Retin-A accomplished many years ago in terms of lightening. Already, pores are noticeably smaller, the stubborn melasma from my pregnancy a year and a half ago is GONE, and the tips of my crow’s feet have already vanished.
