I bought this because of all the great reviews. HA
I bought this because of all the great reviews. HA! From the first use, it doesn't turn off completely. Read instructions several times and even had my husband (master plumber who uses lots of torches) try to turn it off. You have to blow the flame out and then you keep hearing a soft hiss. We had everything off as instructed. Butane leaks! Held a match to it and it relit! Every time I used it, I had to refill it. Just doesn't turn off completely! Got to go find another one. What a pain.

Handy little kitchen accessory!
We had creme brulee for days after my husband received this as a gift but my daughter is in culinary arts so she was excited to get to use it and this was even simple enough for my son, who wants to follow his sisters footsteps and cook, however being 10 I made sure to supervise him intently. I havent gotten to try charing or other things yet but crisping the tops of desserts seems to entertain the kids enough to make this worth every penny, used it maybe 10 times and havent had to refile yet, not sure if others will get the same results just informing others of my results.

When it works, it’s great.
When this torch works, it’s great, but I have had trouble with it since I received it. The first time I filled it, it kept leaking and I put it aside in another room until my husband looked at it. He finally got it to work, but it doesn’t always shut off when you let go of the button. I melted the top of one of my paint bottles thinking it had shut off completely when I let go of the ignition button, like it has before, and set it down. Thankfully, it wasn’t something flammable. I can’t get the flame to adjust at all and you have to really push the off button over hard and wait for it to shut off. Having said that, it works for my needs, I just have to be more diligent in making sure it’s off before setting it down. It was recommended by others, so maybe mine is from a bad batch.

Very pleased with the quality
Just received my JB Chef Micro Butane Torch. Very pleased with the quality. After carefully reading the instructions I filled it without any problems. It lit on the first try and I already used it to caramelize some Creme Brule. Great little product that even impressed my husband!

Fell apart
I’ve used this torch frequently for about 4 months now. Today the base ripped through the screws, exposing the tank. There’s no way to reattach the base and cover to the tank since the plastic wore away where it holds the screws. The torch still works but is a total inconvenience without the base now.

Turning it on isn't quite as easy as it looks
The torch appears to work well in general, although turning it on is tricky and harder than the instructions or the item description on Amazon make it seem.Simply pressing the safety button down and pushing the ignition button does NOT turn the flame on. The reason is quite obvious - the butane doesn't have enough time to reach the ignition spark, so nothing happens. The solution I found is to simultaneously press the ignition button and the continuous flame button. This strikes me as more risky, as you'll be getting a flow of butane even if it's not turned on, but it does allow you to quickly try the ignition button again and at that point there should be enough butane for it to turn on.Besides the apparent design flaw, the device itself works well.

Two Stars
Not powerful at all, impossible to work on something larger than a marshmallow

It is especially useful in heating nylon strapping or 550 cord (oops
Initially, after filling it with fuel, depressing the igniter button rapidly resulted in no ignition. Slowly depressing the igniter button (taking approximately 1 second) resulted in 100% ignition. It is especially useful in heating nylon strapping or 550 cord (oops, parachute cord) thus preventing fraying.
