Yes, FDA food-grade paraffin. Their proprietary wax blend can include responsibly harvested palm, carnauba, and beeswax. According to Illume's website.

Q: Does the balsam wax have a green color to it?

Yes the one's sold by Fina Tavola have the green wax

Q: How does this compare to Yankee candle balsam and cedar?

Better, Illume is good. Try Colonial candles( if you can find them) and Blue capri brand (Anthropology) too. They both have great balsam/fir fragrances. Better products than Yankee. Well at least I think.

Q: I have tried and tried to get the lid off by twisting to the right and pull up or off—I still can’t open it. Looks like others have the same problem.

Sometimes you need to hold the bottom rim tight and twist the lid a little to release some pressure and pull up. Its like a suction cup and requires a little work.
