I LOVE this maca powder. It is very finely ground and dissolves fairly easily with no clumping (of course no maca dissolves completely). I can stir it in with a spoon. It also tastes delicious, kind of malty and butterscotchy, and not bitter at all like some maca I have tried. I think this is the best maca I have tried, and while I am not a maca connosiuer, I have tried at least a half a dozen brands, including a couple with proprietary blends. It gives me energy and I can tell it improves my mood (subtly) and has a positive impact on my hormones by enhancing libido, easing PMS, etc. I am in my early 30's with 3 little kids, so I can use extra energy and a little more mojo sometimes! However, some people I know say that the libido effect is so pronounced that they don't like to give it to their husbands- lol :) This is also a really good deal for gelatinized maca. That is the only kind I buy. Not only is it several times more potent, it is easy to digest. I do eat a paleo/primal diet pretty strictly, and I noticed when I bought a packet of raw maca (unwittingly) that I had terrible stomach cramps afterwards. Never with this. I put this in my version of bulletproof coffee: 4 oz coffee, 2 Tbsp good butter, 2 Tbsp MCT (XCT) oil, 1 scoop Collagen peptides, 1 scoop Goat whey, 1 teaspoon Maca, 1 teaspoon raw cacao, 1 teaspoon reishi powder. I whiz it in my breville frother but you can put it in a blender too. It comes out super frothy and very delicious! This is my breakfast and it powers me through the morning. Sometimes I do pu-erh tea instead of coffee. Maca is also very delicious in smoothies and homemade lara bars.

I'm using this maca powder for its well known effects at hormone regulation. I decided on this version because some of the maca is "raw" due to the current raw food fad but the reality is that there are many foods, herbs and tubers in the world that are more bioavailable to your body upon cooking and other forms of processing. Maca is one of those. You're really not supposed to take it raw, so beware of that. This version is gelatinized which fits the bill and I'm always on the look out for the best prices, it is a bit pricey but it's a competitive cost. So how's it working for me? Is it indeed helping get my system in order? It must be! My period had disappeared and now it's back and thoroughly normal (it was irregular and unpleasant at one time). This maca is organic, seems to be of high quality and like I said I'm seeing a visible result and it happened very rapidly. I just hope to keep getting even more benefits over time. -- I actually use it in a recipe for a tonic with a bunch of other herbs that are all designed to help you get your energy back. If you want to use that recipe yourself and hear the whole spiel about how the ingredients work go to Youtube and search for "David Wolfe energy elixir." Wolfe is an interesting guy who has popularized the idea of "superfoods," the raw diet that I don't subscribe to (although I do juice daily and can say that helps a lot) and he searches the world for foods that promote your longevity. Longevity promotion is health promotion so I'm all for that. I especially would like quality of life and increased vitality. So far I have been enjoying the elixir but this maca is the first product in it that I can honestly say I'm positive HAS given me an effect I can actually point to. I've also used it on its own in milk with raw honey, slightly warmed and that gave it a creamy taste so that's another option that works fine too. It's pretty cool when one of your desperate health schemes actually pays off so I wholeheartedly recommend this product and hope it gives you great benefits too.

I used maca in the past but then gave it up even though I thought it was a tasty addition to my morning smoothie. Then I had thyroid surgery & things were ok until 18 months after the surgery when I started a new relationship & lost my job. My stress response sucked but I didn't want to go on a synthroid because I still have half a thyroid & it still functions (in the way a 7th grader deals with a crush). I immediately gained 8 pounds & could feel my thyroid killing me, so I did a ton of research & took matters into my own hands. I ordered an herbal thyroid support, Sam-e, DHEA, 5-HTP, maca & matcha to replace my morning coffee. I also upped my calcium intake. It's the combination of these that is giving me my energy back. This maca is not gritty & tastes great. I stir it into yogurt. I also increased my workouts & started daily brain exercises. I've consistently done yoga & meditation too. After my first day trying the maca, I slept for a few hours & woke up refreshed. Usually after you sleep with a dysfunctional thyroid you wake up tired. I really think maca helps. It's hard to isolate any one thing but I think it provides a clean energy support. I feel especially calm after taking it, a relaxed outlook. If you're having serious thyroid issues & trying to avoid a synthroid, you're probably going to need several supplements, and they'll probably work but you need to trial & error the perfect combination. Or you could just cut to the chase & get on a synthroid. I've almost gotten there. But I'll tell you, it's an amazing feeling when your doctor confirms that your lifestyle choices are healing your body from the inside. I don't have to go back to my endocrinologist for 5 years.

I bought this to balance my hormones and regulate my cycle. My cycle was over 75 days long and my dr's only suggestion was to start birth control or clomid. I wanted something more natural so I tried maca. I took 1 tsp in a smoothie on days 1 and 2, none on day 3, and 1/2 tsp on day 4. My period started on day 4, I was shocked!! This stuff is working for me so far, I'll update if anything changes. Update 9/24/16 I haven't had another cycle even though I'm still taking the maca periodically. This wasn't a perfect fix for me, but I do think it is a good product. Update 2/18/17 So I finally figured this stuff out. It matters when I take it during my cycle. I waited until I got my period when my cycle started over (Day 1 of cycle is first day of period). On day 9 of my cycle I took 1/2 tsp Maca, same on day 10. On days 11 and 12 I took 1/4 tsp. I didnt use maca any more after these four days. I had my normal pms symptoms about 1.5-2 weeks later and got my period after that. This method gives me a 30 day cycle and I happy with that. I will continue to use this method.

Maca, traditionally is cooked. It has been found this makes it easier for the body to absorb. Gelatinizing maca cooks it in a precise way that maximizes the absorption and minimized nutrition loss. I'm pretty crafty so I looked into gelatinizing raw maca myself, since raw maca is cheaper. I decided it wouldn't be worth the trouble. There is quite a bit of info on the internet on why gelatinized maca is superior. Cooking it also burns off 30% of useless moisture that only rots it, so you are actually getting more maca for your money, not less, so even if you cooked it yourself, it still would be cheaper to get it pre-cooked. I have had maca from Nutivia before. Terrasoul was slightly cheaper, so I went with this brand this time, and I found it to be of equal quality: from the packaging, to the taste, to the consistency. Maca is fairly bitter and is best mixed with other foods such as fruit & protein smoothies. It blends particularly well with banana smoothies in my opinion. It also goes well with chocolate. By itself, I find it hard to consume. You can google for recipes online. Maca is considered a super food, and has natural adaptogens, which by leveling hormones, can act as a libido enhancer for both men and woman. It is also high in antioxidants and minerals. There is lots of research that can be googled about the health benefits of maca online so there's not need for me to cover that here. Hope that helps!
